View Full Version : Plug that Y's off from MAF plug
Ok I have this plug hanging. Its a 97 240 there is a plug for the MAF then the plug I am speaking of goes slightly further than the MAF plug basically looks like a y when u hold them both in separate hands.
Anyone know what this is for?

I would guess the IAT sensor...it's a useless OBD sensor, but will usually trip the "SES" light on '97-98 cars if the sensor is missing.
Is this it? --->

If so, then it's definitely the IAT.

Looks like it's the iat sensor to me. it's not useless. It's there for a purpose.

On an S14, it's useless.
Unlike, say...a Chevy (where MAF + IAT are important)...on an S14, the MAF provides the important info the the ECU with respect to air temp. The external IAT on every S14 is an OBD diagnostic tool. It's pretty much useless...it's not used by the ECU for fuel trim, or anything that has to do with power, fuel economy, etc...

Agreed. Keep it though to avoid the check engine light, if possible.

I think I'm just going to mount mine in a secluded area of the fender well and leave it plugged in, but not actually running to the intake, since the z32 maf adapter doesn't have a flat spot for it.

Most people just run the two wires in under the gasket, in front of the MAF but behind the filter. That way it still reads your IAT.
Anyway, like we said, not crucial.

So this was verified for a s14 ka. My friend is in the process of parting out his sr setup and is throwing an s13 dohc back in the car and was wondering if the IATS is necessary on his motor. I would assume not, but would just like to verify that for him. Thanks guy.

There is no IAT on an S13 DOHC. So no, you don't need it.

Hm, ok thanks. Ends up he's just going to convert it all to an obdI s14 distributor, harness, and ecu anyway, but he still won't need the IAT.
