How do I check to see if my clutch is still good? Is there some sort of procedure?

a good indication can be had if you were to:

-start your car
-pull the parking brake all the way up
-place the car in first gear
-let the clutch out as slowly SLOWLY SLOWLY as you possibly can at all, like even if it takes you 5 minutes
-by time you have the pedal up all the way, if the engine is still running, your clutch is shot

(ideally it should stall)

as well, ive heard that when you punch the gas at a low rpm (say 60 kms in 4th gear) and floor it, your clutch will slip if its worn out.

Clutches for the most part function normally right up to the point that they are shot. It's very rare that they will just give out and you might have to rev match and jam the shifter into the gears to get home (it's possible) most if not all will give hints that it's slipping and they will fail within 500 miles.
Why are you worrying yourself about it?

Sign a clutch needs replacement soon:
slipping/taking longer to "grab" when under load (accelerating quickly/hauling weight/going up hill).

When a clutch starts to slip/take longer to engage- you'll know it........ until then don't worry about it.

Is there an ideal amount of miles to which the clutch should be replaced?

I asked my mechanic that when I bought my 240.

and everyone I know says the same thing (my dads honda mechanic too)

that a clutch should last the life of the car if you drive it reasonably

My dad drives a honda civic Si, a green 1997. So does our neighbor (a blue 1996.) My dads has about 160 kms on it, and the neighbors has 220 kms on it. The clutch on my dads is shot, it still works but wont bite hard and is very slippy.

The one on the neighbors car with more kms is in perfect shape, almost like new, I have driven both of them. Difference being the neighbor is a single lady of about 55 years old and my dad has a teenage son who drives his Si (my brother)

the mechanic told him it should last the life of the car, but not if its beat on, and thats what my mechanic told me too

My 240 was owned by an older gentelman and now has 160 kms on it. I drive it respectably and the clutch is still very good.

I was told to try to get it off 5th gear. If it could the the clutch is good.
