Sleeved and bored by Golden Eagle to 87.5mm
Custom CP 87.5 12.5:1 pistons.
Fresh low milage F20C1 head decked and new valves and brass guides.
Brian Crower Stage 2 Cams 13.0mm Lift on the Intake 12.6mm Lift on exhaust. 310 duration intake, 302 duration exhaust.
Custom Golden Eagle headgasket.
ACL race bearings
Here is a pic of the assembled bottom end. More pics to come. The car is currently getting painted Speedway Blue Ill have pics of that here soon and when the motor and 6 speed AP1 trans goes in. Car will be ran on hondata ecu pump gas.

There's a nice on in my neck of the woods (I believe it's boosted now as well). If it's anything like that one, this should be interesting.

Didn't the rockstar AE86 rock a nicely done s2k engine as well? That guy from Ireland or whatever? I'm excited to see how this turns out :)

here are some pics of the car after the paint, dont mind the overspray dust in the bay or any of that, Its painted gloss black with actual good paint, haha. Came out nice before the blue was sprayed but its just dust and comes right off. It hasnt been cleaned up and buffed for the final finish. Fenders havent been put on either. Bumpers and sideskirts are still being painted.

Ill get more pics as progress goes on. Tommorrow, test fitting of the drivetrain to make necessary modifications to the subframe and tunnel.

In for the end result. Friend of mine is doing KA-T in a Hachi.

ashtonroche
11-21-2009, 12:23 PM
yeah the normal range for the entire drivetrain, harness, ecu is around $4k on the average. he got the entire drivetrain for an S13 complete swap but the head was bad and the block had to be sleeved so in total he still ended up spending close to $4k for the entire built drivetrain which is not bad at all. So he basicly has a built n/a build for the price of the normal stock drivetrain.

So 4 grand for the drive train and then you have to cut the tunnel, do some fab, and buy some extra bits and bobs?

You have to cut the front cross member also.

ashtonroche
11-21-2009, 09:15 PM
yeah front crossmember/subframe has to be cut and some grinding done to the oil pan but nothing too serious. You dont have to cut the tunnel, Just do a bit of hammering.

ashtonroche
11-22-2009, 07:19 PM
well test fitted the motor for the first and last time hopefully. We already had a good idea of the areas we needed to modify on the tunnel, the crossmember, and the tran to make the fitment right the first time. We missed a couple little spots upon test fitting but we have taken care of them and the next time the motor goes in should be the last haha.

Here are the pics of the fitment and modifications made.

Next big things will be to get the new clutch, do all the wiring which for all the body harness and engine harness will be pretty much tucked and the body harness will be made by me all custom to get rid of everything in the car that is not used any longer. So basic brake, running lights turn signals, headlights and thats about it. haha.

Once the clutch is purchased we can fit the motor in for the last time with the wiring and all attached and ready to be wired up.

WOW, you guys appear to be building that car in a freaking dirt lot! That has to suck ass! I would reccomend that you do something to re-enforce that crossmember though.

ashtonroche
11-22-2009, 07:46 PM
in a way it does, but with the right stuff its not that bad at all. You wont believe how many complete engine swaps ive done in my yard. I wish i had the money to make a nice cement slab, maybe one of these days and hopefully soon cut your right it does suck.

And yes the crossmember is going to have some steel plate welded in to fill it and reinforce it like i stated. LOL

we are building it in a dirt lot haha, i'm taking the front subframe to get welded up tomorrow so it'll be plenty strong.

If you want to check out the pictures of the car being worked on prior to how it is now, I have a butt ton of pictures.

Got the motor in for the final time today, which was only the second time. Subframe is done from being braced and rewelded. Came out very very nice and solid. Wired up the entire cars body harness and gauge panel and installed the s2k cluster and got the wiring for that done and hooked up and tested all my circuits. All is good. I have no doubt the engine will fire first try after priming the oil system. Motor fits absolutely perfect. No clearance issues at all. Radiator for an 06 civic is in and fits good but clearance for the hoses is gonna be tight. We could have probably went with something else but this worked out well.

I have no doubt the engine will fire first try after priming the oil system.

Please explain how you will prime the oiling system......

ashtonroche
12-04-2009, 07:59 AM
simple, i will leave the main power harness for the ecu unplugged and crank the motor over for 10-15 seconds until oil pressure is built on the gauge. And done. I do this with all my motors i have built. Simple, easy, and effective.

yeah for now the rearend is a stock gts rearend with a trd 2 way lsd diff.

And i think the power this thing is gonna make is gonna be plenty but yes it can always handle a nice 75 wet shot. haha

That isnt priming the oiling system.. that isnt beneficial in any way. To prime the system would be to build oil pressure without physically turning the motor over. On a honda you cant spin the oil pump without turning the crank... so, not priming. Sorry, didnt mean to be a jerk... just wanted to clarify.

The car is going to be a blast to drive, cant wait to hear your driving impressions. I used to have an 86 GT-S and i always wanted an F20 in it. Good luck with the rest of the build.

It's a Honda, that's the best part.

Put some water in the tank, some syrup in the engine, go to dragstrip, break into 12's, drive to work the next morning.

BS: If you use a good amount of assembly lube on the build and prime it this way with no actual combustion going on there is really no stress or wear that can be caused on the bearings at all. PERIOD! I know there is a better way but im not about to spend the money on a weed killer bottle that you can pressurize and feed oil into the system without turning the motor over or turning it over very slowly by hand.

Again this is useless and if you do the build right (which i did 100%) then your just fine to prime it that way. We also put some oil into the oil pump before putting it on to allow suction to happen quickly and not cause damage to the pump. Plus not to mention the oil level on these sits well up into the pump area anyways.

But thanks and yeah the car is coming along. Engine harness is in, battery cables ran and battery rear mounted in the trunk with a cut switch where one of the license plate bulb housings go (perfect fit). Fuel tank and Walbro 255lph inline fuel pump going on as we speak. Ecu will be here monday and driveshaft goes on tuesday. Car will be driving by middle next week.

Oh and break 12's, hahahahaha More like an 11 on DR's. My sentra with the vvl motor i had in there a while back with 190whp would go 12's on slicks. My car weighed 2000 lbs with it in there. This will have a good 200 lbs less than my sentra and almost 90 more whp.

12-11-2009, 02:50 PM
thanks, engine was up and running but running in limp mode. Cam timing was off one tooth at the chain, very hard to tell but now its not starting at all.

I had to hold power to the injectors originally to get them to unstick since they sat for a while. It could be an injector problem or sensor problem, Im wiring up the obd2 port so i can pull codes to see whats happening. Ive already double and triple checked all my wiring and grounds and some sensors, i cant figure out if its a problem with the ecu since having the immobilizer removed from it or something else.

We will see what codes pop up this evening. Stay tuned for some vids of this thing in action. Motor has absoutely great compression. We ran the motor for about an hour the other day as we were checking through some stuff trying to figure it out. Idle was steady at 800 rpm's but wouldnt rev up past 3k.

pics are back up, ran out of bandwidth on Photobucket

Car is up and running like a champ, i had one wire that i mis wired that was the ground for all 5v sensors, had it wired to a 12v positive wire, Stupid wires that are the same color wire. Oh well, im very lucky to not have fried the ECU but all is well thanks to the OBDII scan tool lent to us by a friend. Just doing the last couple things like bleed the brakes, fender intall, raise coilovers, front bumper and signals wired up. Solder up a couple last wires and clean it all up.

So here is the startup vid. We also need to do a final valve adjustment after breakin is done. Valvetrain is noisy in some spots but other than that it purrs. Exhaust is running open right now as well and he will have a 3" full exhaust made later with the AEM wideband.

thats up to my buddy, he did all the mounting of most stuff. It works and its also solid mounted on the bottom of the frame. The thing doesnt move. But if he later wants to make some custom brackets then cool. Not my car.

thanks, yeah it came out super nice, it is soo fun to drive even though right now we arnt even getting on it. It just wants to go. This motor is so torquey and responsive. This thing judging by how hard it is to turn over by hand when it hits a compression stroke id say its nearing 300 psi of compresion. I know the motor stock is supposed to make 228psi with 11:1 compression. Compression on this is closer to 13:1.

Its going to be a blast, i love it, The power mixed with the very short gears its going to make a hell of a drift car.

ashtonroche
12-14-2009, 07:52 AM
yeah its pretty light, with a full tank topped off it came in at 2080 lbs without him in it. So with a gallon or two of gas it would have been under 2000 lbs.

It is a blast to drive. Its loud as hell running open header but other than that its sooo much fun to drive. The suspsension fees awesome, Car rides smooth as hell, sounds soo good, and is fast as hell. The 6 speed short geared trans is very nice. For the little time i got to drive it i had a blast. It rates up there in the fun factor right along with my sentra. My sentra is redicuously faster but as far as fun factor goes. This is right there with it.
