Hey guys I have a 1993 KA24DE in my 1989 240SX. The original motor was the single cam motor, and was wondering if I took it to get it smogged, will it pass?

Seriously, HOW are we supposed to tell you whether or not your car will pass smog with the little information you provided??? I can tell you that MY dualcam swaps could pass BAR inspection and smog should the owner desire it. Other people's dualcam swaps, maybe not. There are a lot of hacks out there.

If the smog tech doesn't notice the engine swap it's possible.
A newer dohc engine should smog cleaner then a old sohc.
The tech would have to not give a shit about the vacuum line routing diagram though, basically he'd have to just tail-pipe test it and not do a visual.
If would have to be a properly done swap with evap canister and egr too.
Possible sniffer wise yes.

Ummmm, swapping a NEWER engine from the same chasis is 10000000000000000% LEGAL. You're just supposed to go get a BAR inspection, which almost nobody does.

Hey man it should pass, and don't worry about telling them that it is swapped...I WOULDN"T just in case the guy is a douch, but Cali law states that motor swaps can only be done with motors out of the same series of car newer or older, unless it is a jdm motor, say it was a LS1 that would be ILLEGAL, but anything usdm up to 98 that is a KA motor should not only be LEGAL, but should pass unless you have deleted the catalytic converter. Most people on this site can be a-holes, don;t worry about their negatitvity towards your question.

this is partially true. you are not restricted to "the same series" though. for instance, i can put ANY engine into ANY car, as long as it is the same model year or newer, and i install EVERY bit of required smog equipment that came with that engine IN A CALI CAR (not just a federal car). you can put a honda engine in a nissan or toyota into a chevy or whatever. the problem is getting all of the smog equipment to work properly.
for example, many newer cars (like the s2k) have a pressure sensor in the gas tank to monitor for potential leakage. if you decide to put an f20c/f22c into some other car, you must also install this same sensor into the fuel tank of the car the engine is going into, or swap in the actual honda tank.
this stuff has all been discussed over and over again to death, but for some reason people still wanna re-hash it on the internet, where you will get 800 people giving you 9million different answers.
want TRUTH? call the nearest BAR REF.

My smog tech didn't know the difference however some do so its a toss up.
Ironically I have to go to BAR tomorrow to BAR it so i can be 100% legit in this anal state called California.
Wish me luck Tyler:x:
