hi

i have a 95 s14 240sx. ka24de 110xxx miles. heres the story
my radiator sprung a leak, it was the original radiator and old so i replaced it, along with the waterpump thermostat and hoses. the car was parked for 1 week wile i was waiting for the new radiator to come. when it was parked the car ran perfect. a week later my radiator comes, so i go out to the car to start it and it fired up just fine, i let it idle for about 45 seconds before putting it in drive, the car moved two feet and then it just stalled this is when the problem began. i checked for spark and it was weak, so i went to the store and replaced the plugs and wires, the car finally started but i had to play with the gas to get it to fire, it was also backfiring out of the intake a little bit. when the car runs it stutters and is choppy (sounds like its like a subaru) it also backfires out of the tailpipe when revved. if you stab the gas it would just bog but if you eased on it was fine. since then i have replaced fuel pump, fuel filter, strainer, 02 sensor (exhaust mani 02) coolant temp sensor, plugs, plug wires, cap, rotor. it was pulling up a code 34 for the knock sensor, so i bypassed the sensor to eliminate that variable. since replacing all the parts the car runs better, but still s***ty. me and a friend messed with the distributor a little bit last night (spinning it) and the car seems to run like normal after 2000 rpm, but from 1k to about 2k rpm it sputters and runs like crap still. another thing is my cel will flash when im driving it, but when i check the codes i get code 55 all ok code, CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP?????

btw i checked my timing chain and it felt tight i really dont think it skipped.
one more thing my dad moved my car out to the street right before all this happened, he left my passenger side window down and it rained a few times that week, do you think the ecu could have possibly got wet?? i opened it up today and the board appeared to be ok but idk, i did notice small spots of surface rust on the outside of the ecu someone please help i have been trying to fix it for almost 3weeks now http://www.nicoclub.com/forums/images/smilies/bash.gif

MAF sensor is probably going bad

borrow an ecu and then start it up. but it kinda sounds like maf sensor so borrow one of those too and try it

If your saying this happened all of a sudden, and your spark was weak as the result. This probably means your ecu is not getting full 12v neither are your sensors.

so that's probably why your car is acting choppy, its getting enough air fuel and spark to run, but the computer not getting all that power throws off the car?

If not the power problem, them most likely a bad MAF just like everyone said. Happened to my s14 when i dropped my MAF on accident, after that the car ran as you were describing.

hmm it makes alot of sense but what would cause the ecu to not get a full 12v? from it being bad or a bad alternator? my alternator seems fine it always charges the battery and it always was able to jump start other cars. ive been suspecting a bad maf but i dont know anyone else around here with a s14 to try theres.

update
so i messed with the cars distributor some more today, not much luck. i did notice that there was what appeared to be raw fuel coming out of the tail pipe while the car was idling, i pulled the plugs and they appeared like the car was running lean wtf???

try this, start car and run for 30 seconds. Shut down. then check take off each spark plug and check. If one smells or is saturated with fuel, your fuel injector is stuck open making your car run funny. Then that could be the problem. Then replace fuel injector with new or used one.

Hope this helps

Others have good suggestions but you really answered the question yourself. If you unplug the MAF and there is NO noticible difference in the way the car runs or acts it IS your MAF sensor. Check the connections to it (the pigtail) and voltage. If need be replace it.

im kinda ruling this out right now, i tried what you said last night and all the plugs looked LEAN no noticible difference in any of them. i just went out to the car to start it today and it wont start AGAIN, i pulled the plugs and there SOAKED in gas
