okay heres the setup.
s13 blacktop with brand new s15 bb t28 stock 7psi
-4an oil restrictor
megan turbo elbow and manifold
3in exhaust piping
fmic
subaru sti yellow sidefeed injectors
z32 maf
safc2 (i know not the best thing to tune with. its temp til i get my cams and head work done then sending the ecu to get tuned)
mishimoto radiator
14in e fan

okay so the car idles fine and drives pretty strong. Holds boost with no problem and doesn't sputter at all. On cold starts the car doesn't smoke at all, but after driving the car for about 30min and coming to a stop it smokes like crazy for about 3min or so. Then it goes away. Its pretty thick white smoke. Also for some reason if the car is idling and if i remove the air filter it begins to smoke alot too. any input will help. thanks.

super white smoke usually points to antifreeze inside your combustion chamber. however, it would be a completely different story if it was a whiteish blue smoke, which would be more related to burning oil. smell anything?

smells like oil. im dong a compression test tomorrow to see what pressure its holding. i just don't understand why it only happens once in a while. Never when i start the car. only after driving it or letting it idle for a good 20 min

The metal expands as it heats....this could maybe bring out leaks once the car warms up....also, the coolant pressure goes up as it heats up, making it more likely to force it's way through a small leak.

did compression and got 155 on all cylinders. gonna check the turbo return line.

Just to double check, where is the smoke coming from....tailpipe? Or from under the hood....?

tailpipe. once in a while though. it just never did it when i had the t25.

That would indicate then that it's almost certainly something to do with the turbo itself.

Was the turbo used before you got it? How are the seals on the turbo? Is there any shaft play?

Oil Seals. If turbo is brand new make sure you actually have the right oil restrictor, because if it is the wrong one it could have caused the seals to go bad.

^ Doesn't matter if it's a brand new turbo, if you didn't run a restrictor then you probably blew out your oil seals already.

well if the issue did not exist before the new turbo and now it does, then process of elimination would say that it has something to do with the new turbo, is it actually a nissan or garrett turbo? or is it an ebay type s15 turbo, you know the ones that say genuine s15 still a tiny why did i waste money turbo.

if so a lot of ebay turbos tend to come with shitty or already damaged main seals

its a garrett s15 turbo. i purchased it from nissanparts.cc when they were selling it for 675 shipped a month ago. I have a restrictor too.

hmmmm.

Unless something really weird is going on, it has to be the turbo, right? Since that is all that has changed....

Pictures/video of smoke would help....you said smoke is white.

You SHOULD be able to tell the difference in smoke color between coolant and oil.

....and the smell.

u get new lines when u got the turbo?
and how often is 'smokes everyonce in awhile'
same intake set up?
.....recirc'd?

could just be more blow-by with the new turbo into the intake ( if ur set up like that )

okay spoke to the tech guy at blouch turbo. He said that it cant be the seals because its a new unit and b seals cant blow that fast especially since im running a restrictor. The car smokes probably once a day. But when it does its alot for about 2-3min. Then it goes away. I did a compression test so it cant be the piston rings because i got good compression. 155 across. Cant be the turbo because the tech guy said hes been building turbos there for many years and seals cant blow that fast. So im basically down to the headgasket or valve stem seals. Also gonna change my return line.
