I have just swapped in my new motor, 1996 RB25DET and I can't get it running. The motor turns over STRONG and I had it running for about 2 seconds then it cut out and won't catch again. I have good compression, all 6 plugs fire and fuel and air are fine. any suggestions????
Thanks,
Jon:confused:

Did you check your timing?

Thanks for the help, I had the fuel lines swapped backwards, If you want to hear something nice, fire up an RB25DET with no exhaust and rev it up, UNBELIEVABLE!!!!
Thanks again for helping.

out of curiousity, did you use one of the "kits" that some people are selling or did you just swap the engine in by flipping and spacing out the tranny x member and reusing the engine x member?
you said it was from R-33, right? I heard they bolt in.

I used the stock R33 Engine Crossmember and the stock trans crossmember. No spacer was required, just a custom one piece 3" drive shaft that I had made 44 1/4 inches long. That is the only piece that I had to have made. The wiring is a bit of a bitch but other than that it slipped right in. No problems with mounting or shifter placement. A little hood clearance issues but a grinding wheel took good care of that.

well, mad props to you, man... I was thinking of going with a similar setup, but I'm pretty intimidated.
If you have aim, my SN is aandrave, I have a couple questions.

How did you manage to get the engine bay so clean? I'm planning on stipping mine down quite a bit when I do my install, so any pointers you could give me would be much appreciated :D

I wanted to strip down the engine bay because living in NY cars tend to rust a bit. I want this car to last so I figured I would do as close to a full restoration as $$$ would allow. I pulled EVERYTHING I could get a wrench on out of the engine bay so it could be painted. The only thing I had trouble with is the clutch line that meets a coupler down on the right rail under the firewall. I left that in place and just bent it around as I needed. I welded all the stitch welded all the seams under the hood for addl chassis rigidity and patched a NASTY rust spot on the left apron and painted the engine compartment. THen I pulled the door, trunk, hood, headlamp doors, fuel door, hood hinges, bumpers, and fenders aside and will paint those off the car and paint the rest of the car in one shot to avoid paint lines. Painting is the project of the week here. Wiring is not all that bad, on NICO there is a write up on wiring yourself that I followed but the first brown plug is actually white on the 89 240, at least on mine. As soon as I get the dash wiring sorted, I will post something about that. If you are planning this swap, TAKE LOTS OF PICTURES BEFORE YOU START so you will have a roadmap if you get lost. I got cocky and stopped taking pictures and am having a little trouble now.

How did you actually strip the paint and rust out of the engine compartment? Did you just grind it down?

I did not actually strip all the paint out of the engine compartment, I stripped all the parts out of the comaprtment, ground all the rust out and any that was bad I cut out and fabricated patches for the one big hole that was on the left apron. I stitch welded all the seams and ground them relatively smooth then I painted the engine compartment and started reassembly. I remove the doors, hood and trunk lid so we could paint the body as one single piece. No paint lines where the doors close. We are painting the hood, hood hinges, headlamp doors, fuel door, doors, fenders, trunklid, ft and rear bumpers off the car. Then after all is painted I will reassemble the whole car.
As for the wiring check out
