long story short, i was making a left onto a street, got a little understeer, caught my steer and ended up doing a manji drift sort of thing in front of a cop... Idk how the hell it happen, but it did.. I was going way below the posted speed limit too. So the cop pulled me over for reckless driving 23103(a). The cop even put speed at 29 mph and safe speed was 35. I would like to fight it cause this was definitely an accident. I have no experience with the court and would like some help. I have my court date set, do i need to go to court and ask to see a judge to fight it? what would i need and what should i be ready for? This will all be held at the west covina court house. Thank you.

Get a lawyer, maybe get lucky and get the ticket reduced. That is going to be your best bet. Expect the worst, pray for the best.

Sounds kinda weird, how did you barely loose control of your car if you said you were going below 35mph? Talk to a lawyer though, they'll give you the best advice.

i had really bald tires on my front passenger side and my driver side was like 30-40%. I asked myself the same question how could i have done that. It was around 4-5 a.m in the morning coming home from watching the meteor showers, maybe i ran over something that caused me to lose traction? Also if i speak to a lawyer, how much would that be and any recommendations? I cannot afford to pay for anything right now and trying to save up as much as i can incase this fine will be alot. There are no free lawyers i could just speak to about for some advice?
23103. (a) A person who drives a vehicle upon a highway in willful or wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property is guilty of reckless driving.
tell the judge you were going below the posted speed limit.. came around the turn.. your fronts slide.. so to control your vehicle you counter-steered. I'd add, in no way were you trying to disregard anyone saftey or yours. It was unexpected and an accident and your glad that no one was hurt.

What the fuck?
Seems actually believable... because he didn't impound your car.
I got a wreckless driving ticket, which i earned i guess lolol
Nothing I could really do. They impounded my car for 30 days.
that was $1587 to take it out.
then the ticket was $650 after taxes and everything.
and you get 2 misdemeanor points on your license, which stay for 7 years.
horrible shit bro.
get a lawyer if you really didnt do anything, but idk still sounds tough.
Hmmm best bet is to not fight the ticket, if you don't have a record of doing stupid things typically because of the speed involved it will be reduced, when I had my 350z I got into a bit of a pickle and had some idiot chasing me in a SRT4 a few years back, blew through a 55 MPH zone at well over a hundred, both of us got pulled over said they couldn't get a radar on us so the cop marked it at 80+. We both showed up to court and the judge dropped both charges of wreckless and moved it to a non moving violation for improper equipment a 106 dollar ticket.
Just hope your judge is laid back, but idk because cali it seems is worse on racing/street shenanigans than Ky.

is it reckless or careless driving?? Careless is alot lighter.
You should probably not drive around on bald tires. I know if you go into the courtroom with that understeer manji BS then you will get full meal punishment.
35mph speedlimit sounds like residential area. Were you persay taking a corner in a residential area at 30mph and got squirly? If so then probably the cop was right to give you a ticket. The speedlimit is the maximum you can drive safely. swinging through corners all squirly at 30mph isn't safe.

So i went in today to face the judge, she was very kind. I dressed up in slacks, button up, and a tie and look presentable. I explained what happened and could've been pinned with a $1563 fine, 2 year probation, and a 6 month suspended license. I fought it and ended up paying a total of $65 for court fees! Thanks everyone, mods may close the thread now.!
