I have a red top sr20det, took the wastegate out and tried to replace a new one but bigger size and thought that my wastegate were bad. put the new one in and turbo wouldn't work so i put the stock one in and the same thing happened. I don't know if the long metal piece that connect to the turbo manifold got shorter because i had to have it cut and weld it to the new one. In WOT the gauge is saying "0" It's like im not boosting anything at all. If someone could help me out i would really apreciate it, Thanks

huh??? might be to long, and it is leaving your waste gate open, why didnt you just buy the hks adjustible wastegate...

The wastegate that i got was actually given from a friend, I was having problem before with my turbo spooling backwards at high RPM, since my friend had an extra wastegate i thought i'd replace mine with bigger, new and thought better. NowI have this wastegate problem. Is the actuator on the turbo manifold supposed to be pointing down or a little bit open?

take pictures of exactly what your talkin about, do you have a bov, also are the vacuum lines ran correctly?

Whom ever diagnosed your problem as "turbo spooling backwards at high RPM"... Need's to be Spooled Backwards!
Can you put the arm of the wastegate on without force?
When you put the wastegate arm on is the flapper open?
Is the new wastegate longer than the stock unit?
Test procedure... for me, remove the wastegate boost signal line and cap it off! Go for a little spin, NOT WOT just a quick mash on the throttle maybe 30-50% and read the gauge. Did it reach anything above 0?
If not check you boost gauge? if your boost gauge reads vacuum then stops at 0, it might be faulty. Or maybe a big big boost leak.

I'm sorry I explained that wrong I meant that after reving the engine i could feel a lot of air coming out of the air filter. It seems like it would suck air in and spits it back out. But yeah the new waste gate was too long but i had it fix to the right size. Now i'm seing my bost gauge going over 5psi. I have a BOV and I don't exactly know where the vacuum lines is supposed to go though, right now it's teed off of the one under the Throttle body. Going to test drive it right now, I'll let you guys know what happen later, Thanks again

thats your bov dude, your explaining comressor surge... lmao, put your bov on the fitting above the throttle body to towards the valve cover... your bov wont open if it isnt getting any vacuum... as for the waste gate, have a nipple welded on, or thread/jbweld on onto the hot pipe as close to the turbo as possible...

Thanks that work perfect

now with adj WG basically spring tension on the flapper valve is what determins boost.
So if you just cut and welded it to fit perfectly with no tension then thats your problem.
You need tension on the flapper valve to keep it closed under boost.
Simply put:
the tighter the flapper valve = More boost
Little to no tension on the FV = No Boost

Oh Ok, I see what you mean, I was looking for a new wastegate and there is internal and external. Could I used an external ? Sorry I don't really know much about performance or sr motors

Internal will be easier. but depends on the turbo your running.
if its a T25 HKS 1430-RN004 Wastegate Actuator Kit S13 SR20DET (http://www.frsport.com/HKS-1430-RN004-Wastegate-Actuator-Kit-S13-SR20DET_p_1566.html)
or a T28 = See "Ceepo"'s post #2
Also if your W/G ever goes bad usually its the diaphram that goes out which will cause an Over boost problem
If the spring breaks inside (VERY rare) then no boost will occur
Do you have a Boost controller or just a vac line hooked to the W/G
If you wanna up the boost you need a boost contoller

Oh ok I see, right now I think the turbo is working properly, I had a nipple threaded into the IC pipe and have that going to my boost controller then to the WG.

A testament to Nissan engineering...I almost feel bad for some of those motors out there.

That works pretty good acually. Just weld on a nipple and hook it up to your wastegate but like Ceepo says weld it as close as possible to the turbo. Your no boost problem has happened to me after i put my ssqv on. I dont know why. i did some hard wot pulls in 1st gear while it was raining and some how my wastegate came off...haha
