My friends RB20 has a boost leak, he turned up the boost to about 18psi and then the manifold came loose.

Can anyone help with the problem? Where would be the couple of places to check?

Thanks

Yeah, pain in the ass to check every single place. He says the boost gauge will read its boosting, but its not boosting at all.

I dont understand your question/ Problem... Which manifold? intake or exhaust????

so the manifold came loose cuz of boost causing a boost leak?

Maybe you should tighten the manifold back down..... sounds crazy but that just might fix your manifold

BINGO!!!

The Stock turbo exhaust wheel is ceramic so anything over basically 12psi (some say 10 some sy 14) with destroy the exhaust wheel= No Boost

Tell your buddy hes a dumbass

So most likely, just replacing the turbo will be ok right. If that is the case, i'll definitely pick it up. Hes selling it for cheap.

What kind of turbos are on the RB's?

I remember one of my boys having a similiar problem, his brake booster took a crap which caused a vaccum leak which caused the car to run lean and not letting the car boost regularly.

Not sure on the turbo's Numbers but they can be compared to the SR's turbos
RB20=T25
RB25=T28

If he turned it to 18psi on the stock turbo how much u want to bet he has a stock pump in it too. Could have hurt the motor or head gasket too.

well he said that the car starts up fine, no smoke or anything. And he said you can still hear the turbo wheels spinning.

Thats just the Ball bearing CHRA, the wheel is destroyed so it wont build boost at all cuz it cannot spin fast enough.

Like Yellow said check that pump

Would i just need to the replace the turbo itself? I want to pick it up, but i dont wanna risk buying it, replacing the turbo and find out the motor is gone.

It if doesnt blow any smokes, the gasket should be ok and the motor should be ok too right?

cant really say for certian that is the only problem but i would check the turbo first.

If he still has a cat (doubtful) pull the cat and look for little ceramic pieces
