so i recently installed a N62/Z32 etc etc Maf. I Double checked wiring, volt tested wiring for signals, 12v, and ohm for grounds. i have a good chassis ground also.
it's a s13 blacktop SR Greddy FMIC, megan mani, T25, 370s, a rebuild(gaskets and junk),full 3 inch with wastegate dump. and i know Safc isnt awesome for the motor but i got it for $5... 2 IN 6 OUT(verified with apexi) now the car has a rough idle on cold starts if it even starts without throttle feathering. ranging from 750ish-810ish rpms. then calms but has a intermittent miss. i dont have a wideband(i want /need one) so i don't know if its leaning out or too rich. exhaust is still normal no black smoke. now i change the 1,000 setting in LO THROTTLE raised it to 15%-25% it calms but idle raising as high as 1,100rpms. i turn fuel back to stock ecu map, until i confirm problem. i'm wondering if anyone has some input to why it is idling rough. is it due to the airflow through maf with 3in opening etc. etc. i dont want to Add and tune fuel with the safc i would prefer to use it just to convert MAF but if it needs it, it needs it. any input is welcome, complain and flame if you must. i have searched, found similar problems but no answers, Thanks....
Also Bee*R, pretty much using it for hand brake rev limit, is it harmful (i know rocker arms dont like it) with low gain setting eg. "1"? Thanks...

If it didnt do that before check the parts you installed after. especially the cheap afc.

parts to check.

Plugs
plug wires
distributor
grounds
Maf
fuel filter
fuel pump

or just get an OBD diagnosis hand held

BTW get rocker arm stoppers

all the parts were installed before the install of maf. all i did was swap maf from SR maf to N62 and change SAFC setting from 6in 6out, 2in 6out. like i said SAFC is solely in there for MAF conversion. i'm not paying good money on tune for a bolt on stock sr. i'll wait for injectors atleast. i dont like playing with fuel at all on the SAFCII.

plugs are good, wires have been rewired twice and soldered. i have Coilpacks... i'll relocate ground, do you know ohm test for MAF off top of your head, i dont have a access port for OBD plug(if anything i have to check light on ECU), fuel pump is walboro 255, enless it shitted out between the install it should be fine, i'll replace filter, needs it anyway. and rocker arm stoppers i've heard good and bad. one they are needed and some they dont help. either way thats why the Bee*R is still chilling on the tool box.

i gonna clean once more and relocate ground... fingers crossed.

well if ur testing ur maf.... it shud fluctuate from 1v to 5v if u cool the hotwire by blowing it. something was wrong with my bro's z32 maf but it turned out that his chip wasn't even connected....
soooo... i cud only suggest getting a better engine management or fix ur grounds
kinda drunk so yea...

lol drunk... yes it fluctuates 1.06v to 5 ish...im gonna try rewiring grounds tomorrow... and a good cleaning... i was wondering the resistance spec in ohms if anyone knew it to double check the maf. but i guess the output voltage would not be correct if the resistance wasn't...thanks

ok relocated ground and throughly cleaned maf... still rough. it's reading 15-17 vacuum. so i add fuel 10-15% via LO Throttle on SAFCII, and it goes to what it once was 19-22. more fuel more vacuum. eg. my 10%=19in HG, 13%=20in HG, 15%=22in HG. so it's running lean. it runs smooth but high consistent idle with 25% and up but thats too much of a jump that im comfortable using SAFC for. i test drove it. it boosts fine without break up but i think its too rich for idle cause when i let off gas after boost it drops to 100-200 rpms then dies if i dont give it gas.... its starting to piss me off.... i cant find a vacuum leak to save my life either...

AFCs are horrible for MAF changes - like beyond horrible. You don't know enough to say it's rich or lean at idle when it's coming down, steady idle etc. so just forget about the AFC and start thinking about some other form of decent tuning.

ok I ALREADY KNOW the SAFC is crap... but it does work... and for a solid bolt-on motor with just a MAF change doesnt need hundreds of dollars of tuning atleast not now. i do know enough to know it was lean... based on vacuum changes and how i add fuel. and it bogs after revving because of recirc and too much fuel at the time. it's been done a thousand times using a safc to convert for maf changes. i said i dont like/want to use it for fuel. thus why i'm asking the zilvia community for answers on why it's not working. the SAFC is NOT the problem here. thus why i'm stumped... thank you for your opinion but enless your gonna pay for my dyno time, your opinion doesn't help me.
