i dont support or encourage city drifting (off track)

please go very late
make sure there are NO RESIDENTIAL AREAS!!! (very importnat)
be ready to pay $$ when you crash into something

please be safe.

street racers die from illegal car activities.
so do drifters.

better than me. i'm in the 'trying to find a good place to practice' phase. :( the only place that is big enough, empty late at night, and without chance of being busted by the man is the mall parking lots, and they're full of rent-a-cops.

I found one place not to go...that is schools. Me and a friend of mine got into a lot of trouble when the cops showed up. Me in handcuffs, and my friend had a apb out for him. I got out of the arrest due to some friends in high places, but they can get you for reckless driveing. Just be carful and watch out for people that might call you in...now i'm also trying to find a new place...Such is life, drift on.

I find that the best audience to be had at the church lots is from around 9-12 on Sunday.. and depending on the church, you can get a pretty good crowd of people screaming you on in the evenings too.

Just make sure you limit yourself to only one or two appearances per church. :P :D

hahaha this is funny because i got in trouble for drifting (or attempting to) in a church parking lot. it is a wonderful place, huge lot with 4 light poles to drift around. it sits about a half mile off the road and is surrounded by woods and fields. we were there for exactly 12 minutes before the cops showed up. i got a ticket for reckless op, and it sucked. the cop even talked about how she used to do stuff like that in parking lots. it was dumb. but oh well, i learned my lesson.

CleanS14
05-15-2003, 06:01 PM
Best place to learn drift is autocross... you won't have the best times of course... and you might get "the talk"... but hey cones don't hurt as much as curbs and poles and you'll know how to REALLY control your car!!!

I agree with dousan... please save us from your potential mistakes... and don't go to the togue unless you're ready!!!

SEATBELTS remember or be remembered!!!

what should i do :(

CleanS14
05-15-2003, 06:36 PM
Should I even answer this one...

Don't do it man... don't you know drifting = noise = attention from those in your immediate area = cops in your face writing you a ticket!!!

Just wait until it rains and go to a mall parking lot for a quick fix... they usually have large lots... or venture to the industrial part of town...

I'd just say keep it off the street man... but if you really need to wait and have a midnight slide session in a lot or space far far away from cops!!!

Just be safe...

Dousan_PG
05-15-2003, 06:39 PM
yep iEATrice is right
keep it off the streets
yeah i know track events are hard.

best bet is get your *** organized and rent a place w/a group of poeople. or make friends w/ a lot owner or better yet, make the trek to a track. :)

on the streets=evening news=bad rap=cops will know=you get reckless driving/endagerment and worst: exhibition of speed! OUCH!!!

this isnt japan. this isnt HI, this is the mainland usa. keep it off the streets!

yea..Def. be safe!..and buckle up..and $$$ is a good thing for backup when u crash..i already did:( i juss saved up 1600 bucks..so im good to repair the car!:) or i can always leave the car the way it is..and fix my alignment at least so i can drive straight..and buy a Nismo SSS hrmm... haha..even tho i crashed it..i can still drive it fine..juss mainly body damage

its good to keep it off the streets...since events dont happen everyday..u need to practice somewhere..so going out late in a parking lot is good. cant hurt nobody when ur out of nowhere but urself. im still trying to find me a good parking lot to practice late at night..and when i mean late..i mean like 2am hehe..im a night person blaahh

Kids on the east coast are kinda like the skateboarders...They skate in places they're not suposed to cause there's no skate park...Hence, no events to go to so we have to settle for the open road. I have a few places...But they aren't in town...Industrial parks, the mall parking lot at night (there's bad a$$ paint guided turns in the back) and then a few nice windy roads w/15mph turns and such...Ohh yeah, the airport. There's a nice nice sharp right w/good left hand clearance before the grass.

Slow your roll young padawan... so are you saying that you are D1 material here? Drifting is about control... if you are that gifted great... but please understand that to drift is to break all of the norms that most drivers are used to.

Don't knock these people for trying to learn...

Honestly... I have a hard time believing your are as good as your words seem to say... one week of countersteering does not mean drifting!!!

as far as drifting.

Fastback180
i dont know how good you are or what LSD (if any) you are using.

but for me, i've been drifting for about 6 months now and i wouldnt say im "good" im so so beginner. i can do some 3rd gear, but primarily top of second banging off redline, some choku dori going in or a nice sideways straightline and link 5-6 corners relatively ok and smoothly. i am not super consistent but i can be at times. i dont think im great. because im not. i suck. i still have lots to learn. drifting to me, isnt about IM BETTER THEN YOU or "omg i cant believe you cant do that!". to me its about learning and helping fellow drifters and beginners learn more. if someone wants some help hey i'll help where i can. if someone wants to ride in my car, by all means grab your helmet and hop in. i dont think anyone here is in the right to knock or poke fun at people.

as far as what iEATrice said, yah anyone can counter steer. crud you do that on donuts! its great to know and its vital. putting that to the track and working on lines, weight transfer, balance shifting, various techniques...that's drifting. going fast and keeping a VERY fast speed during drifts, that's skill. a driver can go drift a corner, but they might lose LOTS of speed. the skill it maintaining that high speed playing with lines making it clean smooth and fast as well as have complete control of car and a skilled driver can do it over and over and over and over....and over again with ease.

d1 drivers can take the same line drift the entire day and nail it on the dot everytime.

but then again that's about 10 years of SOLID probably 4 days a week of drifting :p

for me to start drifts at 100mph is not likely for sometime hahahaha....

yes dousan... you're reading my mind... this "I'm better than you" mentality is what has flawed the street racers and ricers out there in the world... it is natural to be competitive... but we should help out everyone that wants to learn!!!

Drifting is definitely making friends and having fun!!!

Track days yes... but they are mighty expensive... so much prep... maybe we will meet sometime at a drift event since drift mania is starting... won't be going on the 24th though cuz I gots to walk in the grad thing for my family... so maybe all those after...

I will most likely start autoxing again once my S-Chassis project starts up again...

Just a bit of history... I have owned 3 S14's since '96 when I got my license... KA, KAT, SR... Grip, Drag, Drift... I'm dying to get out on the track this year... but work is really pressin right now...

I wish we could be professional students all our lives... :D

ill be up there for DD6.....:)

unfortunately, my car is going BOTH days of DD5.
my friend (beginner) is using it saturday
im using it on sunday

and i am letting him use my Japan Spec Formula 901 (beat up)
and ill use my relatively new FM901 on sunday :D hehehe

fronts..might get some ES100s for the event..undecided..hmm. or stick w/ the current FM901s up there.

i hope i cna get the new Nismo SSS lsd in before the event.if not ill just end up using the current lsd rats...:(

CleanS14
05-16-2003, 11:00 AM
Wow... so trusting you are with your friend and your car... I think that's cool!!!

Haha... Dstyle is mighty expensive... I am lucky... up here in the bay there are sooo many used tire shops that get the higher end cars donating tires that I usually don't have to spend for new ones...

and no bay area folks... I won't tell you where!!!

What kinda LSD you got?

BTW if anyone is looking to donate an S-chassis out there I will gladly take it off your hands!!! Just make sure the chassis is straight of course...

Do you go to DD's often? I have yet to go to one... mostly hwy/lot/track practice... I want to go... but... never really works out with my work schedule.

Dousan_PG
05-16-2003, 11:08 AM
ah i am lucky
i work M-F so free on weekends and alll that.
hehe..

LSD: right now, i dont know. haha....used from Japan. 2 way LSD (not harsh, so might need rebuild) but its 2 wya, i've test its abilities in various ways :p giong to open and verify it when i swap diffs.
i was told mechanical but whatever. it works like a charmer. and it was dirt cheap :) no complaints. had it for almost a year now.

new one is a Nismo SSS. full kit. should be here shortly :) install takes 1 day in the car same day probably as well as break in...easy stuff.

tires. yeah used is the way but i like sticky. the Formula 901s were free and tread wear is very nice. since i use FM901 all around, the fronts become rear when i get new fronts. but i only buy tires 1 time a month (2 tires) so its not horrible.

yeah my friend, he is the 1 of the 3 people i completely trust on the track. i should reiterate. he is the only one of those 3 who i DONT let on the real track (willow springs) the other 2 are more skilled. since DD5 is parking lot, no worries of curbs to hit and wheels to drop off course. hehe..

dorifto180sx i trust too, hes using my car for ikaten (he's better driver) since i have no chance at placing well. i would do fine, maybe 2nd round, but he wants to do be my guest. just make sure i go and watch :p

yeah high end cars dumping tires rocks. too bad im 15". i'll go 17" later and then its all gooooood. :) hopefulyy have some R33 GTR wheels. i got some waiting for me :) ho ho ho...just need the $

dds? nah only dd4 and dd5
but went to various willow springs, all the private events and various other stuff that comes up. usually rounds out to 2-3 time a month at the track. street practice...wont say. this isnt the proper place (public forum) to discuss such things.

CleanS14
05-16-2003, 11:24 AM
Well I also work M-F and all that... but then like you know there is a lot of prep involved when getting your car out on the track... brake pads, tires, fluids yadayadayada... so I don't get ready in time and am usually too tired to make the drive out... I don't want to fall asleep on the road *knock on wood*

I'm trying to start a new project... a slide only car... but I'm having a hard time finding a willing/able chassis up here... maybe I should look in your neck of the woods aye???

don't forget to do those figure 8's... mighty important!!!

I like sticky too... but for some reason I always choose the wrong tire... too much slip coefficient... but anyway that's another thread... hey I'm not on this forum often... but are you on FA also?

Dousan_PG
05-16-2003, 11:37 AM
man there's NOTHING down here unless you A) catch the ad posted at print time B) got the cash adn time to get check it out ASAP

other then that there's nothing
:( so cali sucks

i want to get another 240sx: coupe

yeah prep sucks
my friend is jobless so i might trade cars and let him work on it for a while hehe...get my tires mounted and do my oil/diff stuff. hmm.

yeah im on FA:

dousan

figure 8s...ooh tough. hehe..i am not good at that gymkhana style'd driving. neeed more practice. :) only been doing this stuff 6 months..

btw, what wheel size you use? My friend has 17s and he LOVES Falken ST115s...i mean LOVES them. said they break SOO nice and consistent and dont snap loose or break slow. its very constant. actually 2 friends use them and both really really like them. :) when i get my GTR wheels (and more power) i'll use them too hehe..

CleanS14
05-16-2003, 11:51 AM
yeah darn... well I'll keep looking I guess... but actually nor cal sux just as much... hahaha

I meant when you break in the LSD... don't forget to do the correct breakin procedure... figure 8's... not the dstyle 8's hahaha... we would all love to see that... but would hate for you to brake that lovely part!!!

hehe... 17"+... I like Richard's setup it's sooo nice!!! I've heard great things about the ST115's... I want to try... but yes with these types of tires... you'll need power hehehe

Dousan_PG
05-16-2003, 11:59 AM
OH BREAK IN! hahaa..yes. got a good place sourced out. :) pro shop is installing (dirt cheap) and i'll swap and break in. sucks gotta buy more fluid. probalby use redline 90w140 (as always) for breaking then drain and use the Nismo (bling bling) fluid after. :) cant wait. i heard the LSD is SUPER rude.
my friend's buddy in japan has the SSS. says to make u turns and such he just does a burnout/donut because its so rough and rude. NICE. :) i got extra axles so no worries haha....should be fine. ill of course set it to 2 way, if its too much then 1.5. its supposed to be pretty agressive. :)

i am stock KA=no power out of corners hahaha..KA is fun. one day s14 sr...one day. until then i spend all that savings on track and tires....

edit: richard is crazy. his car is nuts. sniff sniff. i stilll remember the days when his SR was timid and he had the 4 lug kosei/buddy clubs..the memories...(that's when i met richard)

CleanS14
05-17-2003, 12:39 AM
Just wait 'til you get your SR... if you can dori w/ a KA the SR will only make things easier... I do admit... more HP makes this hobby a lot easier!!!

Yes I too met JDMRICE when he had the Buddy Clubs hehe... I remember him always saying that he had to repaint his car so many times because he "USED" it LOL :p Luck PJ got his back!

I'm no D1 material for sure...But I do catch 3rd gear drifts and mostly top end 2nd's. I never use my handbrake though. From what it sounds like, I think me & Dousan could be on the same level.
I always had the impression that everyone on here HAS a 240 and CAN drift...But I guess it's different.

I've been doing stuff like this for years. Not really drifting but doing doughnuts in parking lots, or doing rally driving in peoples yards (random people I don't even know) and I have learned that you spend no more than 1 minute or so doing this. I've came so close to being caught so many times.

just one comment... DO NOT DRIFT AT AN AUTO-X. Most of the people that are there, are serious about what they are doing. Unless you want the rest of the world of Club racing to completely despise drifting, and NEVER embrace it (read, never host actual drift events) Don't do it.

You aren't just ****ing everyone there off, your also hurting yourself.

CleanS14
05-19-2003, 12:15 PM
Actually I did not say to deliberately do it... I said it's the best place to learn... often times you can carry more speed through a turn by drifting through it... and if you don't mind wasting your runs (like me) then you can learn there... I'm talking about feinting at every turn and trying to slide the all... I'm talking about going in hot at times and learning how your car reacts to different stimuli... ie accel off, braking, oversteering... that's all... and actually the fastest guys often break their rear ends loose... not on purpose... but because they have power and know how to "CONTROL" their car!

I don't see anyone getting ****ed off when someone slides a turn perfectly or breaks the rear end loose... a lot of people were cheering yesterday at Dual @ De Anza... and no it wasn't a bunch of kids cheering... there were a lot of SERIOUS folks there as well...

Dousan_PG

sykikchimp
05-19-2003, 12:27 PM
listen... just don't go to an auto-x and act like its a drift day. you will upset people, and you will leave a bad taste in their mouth about drifting and drifters.

Drifting is so new in the US, that anyone who does it is an ambassador of sorts. If people see you being a dumas, and you claim to be a "drifter", then they will assume it's part of the culture, and ALL drifters, and drifting in general is bad, and only causes trouble.

edit - I rephrased to be a little less harsh..

Dousan_PG
05-19-2003, 12:32 PM
yeah agreed sykikchimp

so basically autox IS NOT the place to LEARN or first time attempt (yes you will spin out, yes you will most likely hit cones)

if you are expirienced, hang the back out a bit, ok....but keep it on the low down or minimal. dont think 'oh damn i can drif dis ho cours yo. my car is jdm tyte yo'

as it is in drifting and ANY motorsport, respect your fellow participants.

eitherway people will still be stupid and ruin it for everyone and give drifting a bad name. my post is useless because no one really listens so whatever..
