The small dealer that I bought the '93 240 from may be out of business and they didnt send the title in. I bought it in Atlanta, GA and I live in Minnesota. Its been over a month and a half since I bought the car and the temporary plates expired so now I can't drive it. I have tried hunting down the dealership but the numbers that I call either have been changed or are never answered. What are my options on obtaining the title so I can finally register it in my name? Tomorrow I will call the DMV and ask them, then maybe BBB, the police department, a lawyer... someone will have the answer for me. Anybody have that happen to them or someone they know? Any suggestions?

You can always apply for a new one.

You're gonna have to go through the DMV in the city you bought it in. I'd personally try to call them and explain the case. They'll probably be helpful.

If you apply for the title replacement, you're probably not gonna get anywhere much. The dealership should have done a title transfer in your name first, and then you'd be able to ask for the new title. If you apply for the replacement, you're just gonna get the old owner's name on there and be stuck in a ditch. Good luck to you.

I had the exact same problem at the beginning of the year. I bought the car from my uncle and we tried to change the title, but he just had the title receit and the person that he bought it from went out of business. The DMV told us to file for a new title, which would take awhile. My uncle has not done it yet and I don't know if he will. The only thing that shows it is mine is the insurance. Like S13girl said, your best and really only thing to do is file for a new title.
