Do I have to bleed the clutch???

Ok so i'm in the middle of changing my clutch (tranny is on the the ground waiting for some extra muscle to get it back up) ..anyways I was just wondering if I NEED to bleed my fluid or not. Basically I'd prefere to be lazy and not bleed the system unless it's absolutly nessicary (sp?). I just want to get my car back on the road...i'm tired of driving my 8mpg beater truck. :mad:

its like bleeding your brakes after changing the pads, you dont HAVE to but you might as well while the wheel is off

Yeah I hear ya. It's just that I really need my car tommorrow...and I don't think the person helping me tonight will be able to stick around long enough to bleed the system. Thanks for the reply though...It's nice to know that it's not an absolute need.

you didnt need to disconnect the slave cylidner at all when dropping tranny to change clutch?

i've never changed mine (yet) so i dont know....

if you had to disconnect it. you'll have to bleed it. takes 5 mins when you dont have the dampening box in there (search mode if you dont understand that comment)

I was researching a post, and someone on there said they were going to add pics and details on changing their Master and Slave cylinders to the "Installs Section"....( I would like to have these for reference on *Project S&M*)

where does one find this?? I looked for it, but no luck

oh no install on it
its really easy
mc is like 4 or 5 bolts, you need to take it off clutch pedal inside car first and also unbolt in engine bay and remove hardline

follow hardline down, goes to dampner box, disconnect there, remove box, bend hardline (with proper tool--can get at auto shop-same tool to bend brake hardlines) and bend that to reach the hose that goes to clutch slave cylinder

clutch slave cylinder is 2 bolts on side of tranny (Passenger side). remove/replace (easy takes 10 minutes)

reinstall, bleed off the clutch slave cylinder.


since no more dampener box, takes about 5-10 minutes with 2 people




ive never seen pics or much beyond that

above is just a quicky.. its really really easy to do
parts for slave is like ~$15 and master is ~$60

if you left the slave cylinder connected to the line, you don't have to bleed the clutch.
BUT its been my experience that if it was your stock slave cyl it probably wasn't in the best shape, and the extra strain of a new clutch and pressure plate (I bumped to stage I clutch, too) will ruin the slave cylinder.
advance auto sells replacements for like 15 bucks, or you can get a 2 or 3 dollar rebuild kit.
so, no biggie. however, if you disconnect it you will need to bleed it. and you will need two people.

yeah I was able to leave the cylinder attached the line. ..and the clutch I put in was pretty much just OEM ...so i'm not really too worried about crapping the slave...if I do I'll just replace it. :D

advance autos? do they have a website? are those new replacements for $15? also, while we're on the subject.. does anyone know the advantages of the nismo clutch slave cylinder and streghten bolt on jspec vs the oem spec slave cylinder? i was comtemplating getting the nismo as a replacement for my 10+ year old stock slave cylinder while im in the process of changin my cluthc.. any insights?

advance auto makes you order through parts america...
their website sucks total ***, they carry tons of **** that aren't in the web catalog. they are a national chain brand, with like 10 stores within an hour of my house, so I usually go there insteald of autozone...

anyway call and ask, website sucks.. I ordered brakepads throught the website and they took like 2 weeks to get here, I consider that slow.

should've mentioned that i just go in person since there are a number of locations around here. i use the website to price parts and see what my options are however

well, offhand I can tell you that the nismo one is somewhere around six times the price. I seriously doubt that it is so good that you would blow out six regular slave cylinders in its lifetime.

hydraulic clutches are simple. if you want to understand how they work, take a large syringe (no needle) and a slightly smaller syringe, and connect them with a length of silicone tubing. fill the system full of water, with the small syringe pushed in the big one holding water.

push the syringe. it pushes the small one.

now, unless nismo found some awesome way to improve (marginally, likely) the stock one, I doubt its worth whatever jspec is charging.
I got my oem replacement for, if memory serves correct, 13 dollars and change.
