Hey guys. I'm lost.
I bought z32 rotors from ebay. It says they're compatible with 1990+ 300zx, both tt and na.
Now for the calipers.
I went to a parts store, and they had a different number for the 1992 z32 calipers.
They had 3 numbers... 1/92-3/92; 3/92-7/92; 7-92-on
ACK!
I want 26mm calipers. I want the ALUMINUM! Does anyone know FOR SURE what date/year I can pick up aluminum calipers from? I see the cast iron as WAY too heavy.
Thanks,
-Jeff

Not all is better with the Aluminum calipers. '90-'93 had cast aluminum calipers -- these flexed a lot under extreme braking. Nissan chose to accept a 100 g weight penalty to get better braking and start using the cast iron after 93. So 100g is about .22lbs weight difference. To me that is weight to be taken into consideration as its got to do with rotatonal mass. Of course this comes from the crazy suspension guy who has Lightweight lugnuts! muahah!

I beleive I saw that the earlier calipers were 26mm, but double check. As for the Al vs. Fe, popular belief is that with the lighter weight of the 240, over the Z, there are no problems with the Al calipers. BTW: what kind of money for the calipers? Also, don't forget to deal with the lines b/c they don't match up. PDM has a conversion set up that is supposed to work for those.

Never mind my above statement. Im not to sure how much the weight dif is. I have been told this several times and now overboost.com wants to say they are 10lbs heavier. Hrmmmm.....

OK.. I got it.
In 1993 and on, the calipers were changed from aluminum to iron. Overboost says that the iron calipers are 10lbs+ heavier. I asked around and found out that 1991 TURBO 300zx's used the larger calipers made from aluminum. I bought those, and if they aren't aluminum, I'll send them back.

Once I talk to PDM and get the brake line conversions, and get some EBC greenstuff brakes.. I will be set.
As far as prices go... Here's what I paid:
Rotors- Brembo X-Drilled and Slotted- $140/pair +$25 shipping.
Calipers- 1991 z32TT- $58/each (lifetime warranty )
Conversion lines- PDM- $100/set +shipping.
Brake Pads- $70 +shipping

All together... around $450.
1/2 the price of the PDM set... but my calipers were rebuilt and have the warranty, while PDM's are "factory new" and have no implied warranty.
Hope to help someone!

In my opinion, better braking is worth an extra 10 pounds.

Its more worth it just for the warranty. PDM doesn't give you jack s*** for a warranty. I ordered a short shift kit from him, and it didn't fit. The bushing on the end was too big. No warranty, no help.

WOO-HOO... I've been doing research. Mark, you're right about the extra 100 grams. But those were the rotors when they went from 26mil to 30mm.
And... my '91 calipers are ALUMINUM!! (I was sweating that one!)
And as far as Overboost is concerned, they weighed the calipers at 21 pounds *each* for aluminum, and "30+" for cast, a piece.
They calipers I just recieved are 6.5 pounds, or 13 total. I don't know stock caliper weight yet, but I will find out once my lines come in and I take everything off. I dunno. I just like to know how much my car weighs when I do things to it.
But the calipers are HUGE!
