View Full Version : Overheating problem - only when stopped

So I replaced my hoses, radiator, thermostat, a while back.

My car only overheats when Im stopped and idling, but not when I am moving. I have to turn the heater on full blast if im stopped or the temp will creep up. If i start driving down the road, the temp falls back to normal.

I have electric fans, and they are on all the time.

The coolant does not smell like gas, and is not milky.

What could be wrong??

thanks!

you have air in your coolant system, try bleeding it throughly.. or your waterpump could be bad

I thought my fans might be weak, are altima fans the ticket?

I think there was air in the system when I first got the Rad installed, it would go hot when I was driving around. Now it just goes hot when Im stopped.

jack the car up and bleed it(it should take 15-20 mins), thats the only thing that could be wrong if your not leaking coolant.TRUST .if u have an aftermarket radiator and ur system is bleed properly u can run w/o fans DD. i've done it

Water pump doesn't have to leak if its bad. But simple fix first is to bleed the system for air and see if that solves it. If not check to see if the fans turn on if they do then check the volts to see if they are up to spec. Either it is a water pump failure, air in the cooling system, or cooling fan failure.

You need "black magic" fans + you need a swirl pot and a 2 PASS radiatior

I have a Nismo Thermo, ISIS Radiator, and Duel ISIS Radiator Fans, I have my fans wired to a relay kit from autozone(25 bucks turns fans on at 185 and off at 170) my car never gets hot, when im driving it stays cool, when im parked for a long time and it runs it gets warm enough to turn the fans on...

Check your water pump, rebleed your cooling system, maybe bigger fans?

not a fan of this "Isis" Crap

Personally....

If you are looking for a serious Radiator, get the PWR 2 Pass one from John Griff.

Period.
