does anyone know how to test to see if a starter is bad. I have an '89 coupe with an sr. I have full power and the car will pop start. When I turn the key the acc. relay clicks, but nothing happans after that. Also is there any thing else it could be other than the starter. Thanks

I hope you've already done the basics.. Checking the lights, the horn, fuses and relays? Worse comes to worse, Kragen's has a tester that you can ask them to use and they can check your starter for free! You can't beat that. If the car is running off a pop start, it could be the solenoid is dirty. You can open the case and with 'several' wood pencil erasers, clean it and then give it a try.

If you have a multimeter you could take a reading and make sure you starter is getting the voltage when you turn the key.

If you do decide to test the starter then do as N1ceDrgn recommended and take it to kragen. The starter produces a healthy amount of torque and to be arbitrarily powering up without bolting it to something could be dangerous.
