I've been wondering why is this posted in "tech talk" and not in the off-topic section.

Note that both options listed are only M-rated...which may be fine for drift events (and SCCA autocross). But most road course events will require a SA-rated helmet.

So rather than spend $120-200 on an M-rated helmet, it might be best to drop the +$300 on an SA-rated one, and be covered for ANY event you might like to do.

Food for thought.

Talk to Tom from On Track Motor Sports (805) 794-3953. He offers a lot of good deals on track gear and will make sure the one you get fits you well both physically and budget wise. I know a lot of people on this forum can vouch for him. I got my HJC Helmet from him and I could not be happier.

I use a HJC. Forgot the model. But iirc its not the bottom of the line but one up from it. HJC is cheap, works fine and pretty comfy. There is really no need to spend 200-300 dollars on a arai or shoei unless you are a serious road racer or drifter. I bought mine slightly used (only worn once or twice because it still smells new) for about 60 dollars on ebay. I only do 2 or 3 autocross events a year, go to the drag strip every once in a while, and maybe 1 road racing event a year so a cheap helmet is fine for me.

I remember a quote from a mag...
"Do I really need to spend $400.00 on a helmet?"
"Depends on what you are gonna put into it."

some dirft events wont allow you to have open face at events. the ones i've been to wont allow. so like Orions14 said its better for you to invest on a SA helmet

I was going to say this. I have the first Gforce Open face in Black.. M rated.

I am now selling it because I need an SA rated helmet

it's XL and for sale - $80+ shipping.. used for 2 events.
