View Full Version : Changing rear s14 Brake pads

is there an easier way to "turn the piston in to the caliper" i bought that little piston tool thing and you just ratchet it in. but, the problem i had was that well the caliper PUSHES OUT and it wont stay in place. so my solution was to make a zip tie rope and then tie it to the lower caliper bolt while having the top caliper bolt bolted in. but, then the top caliper bolt would slide out when i applied to much force. so i ended up having to HOLD THE CALIPER and then RATCHET with the other hand it took me 2 hours.

so i want to know what the zilvia gods know.

this is for an s14 rear brake as well...

Just like we've said a million times, if it's unnecessarily hard to twist back in, the caliper is seized.

In over a dozen years I've only seen a couple of rear calipers that weren't. Go buy new ones.

ohhhh, ok that sounds like a great idea didnt know that they were seized up then never mind that definetly clears up everything than.

Every time I've replaced rear pads, the calipers had to be too, for that very reason.

is there anyways that you can take some picture of your rears brake.....cause i dont know what rear caliper i had...is either is 300zx or stock s14

so then where can we get these calipers you great ones speak of..... if i don't want to go to vatozone and grab me a set of those and don't have a need to upgrade

Every time I've replaced rear pads, the calipers had to be too, for that very reason.

you probably let the piston go out too far so it seized...not because of age.

Removing the master cylinder cap also makes turning the piston easier
and fyi, I just got the rebuild kit for the rear from Kragen
comes with everything needed except new pistons and it's only ~$20.

is it $20 for both calipers? or just one lol i knlow dumb question. also was the rebuild kit for s14 or z32? asking b/c you posted up pics and i didnt know which you were referrring to.

is this based on personal experience or what. because that's a lot of years and a lot of cars. it can be just from age they go out.. just wondering

I wouldn't say it if I was just making shit up. I bought and salvaged over 60 240s when I was running my shop and have serviced dozens others over the last decade and a half. Very few from any car I've ever touched have been in good condition.
