yeah i got a origin spoiler for my 13 coupe, but i cant find a way to get it to be stuck on really good, it always tends to lose the stickiness and comes off, i love how it looks but i hate how someone can just pull it off, anyone have something better than 3m double sided tape. something stronger and is water proof, or something. and to add to the trouble the wing has curvature which don't really match up with the rear windshield

I have an Origin carbon fiber 3 piece hatch spoiler on my carbon fiber hatch. I use 3M double sided tape and it works great. I never had issues of water or weathering destroying the adhesiveness.
You have to clean and dry the surface in which you will be laying the tape on. Press firmly before removing the other side of the tape covering to ensure the tape has made full contact with the surface.

this isn't rocket science.....
Make sure you are using REAL 3m tape.

Like mentioned in this thread, make sure you clean the area where you will place the 3m double sided tape. Also if you can, use 3M adhesion promoter for better contact:

i used the 3M grey kind. it has a red backing. sticks like super glue
its also the same kinda doubleside tape the OEM window visors use.

really?!?!?!?!
use 3m. clean both surfaces with a good cleaner. then again w/ alchohol to remove any left over residue. let dry, then apply. let set in place for a few hours to be safe.

yeah real 3m and the contact isnt great on the sides since it pops up a little from curvature issues, i even got my brother to hold down the side while i used a heat gun inside to heat it up i can even smell the adhesive odors

That's what I'm thinking. Sounds like it is warped and not holding the curvature of the window.

i have a origin roof spoiler for the s14 and fitment wasn't even 100%.... YET 3m tape (off the shelf) was enough to keep it really STUCK through rain, heat, etc.
i haven't had any complaints. literally the only way i'd be able to take it off now is to use a razor on the glass part. make sure u clean the glass surface!

the origin fitment on my 14 was not too good either, i sent it back, got a replacement and still the fitment was not that great but i dealt with it... but like what everyone else said, make sure both surface is clean, use 3M double sided tape, let it sit for a couple hours that wing shouldnt go nowhere... had mine on for almost 4 years till i took it off a month ago, did not have any problem with it getting loose
PhilipJdm
10-27-2009, 11:33 PM

What does this thing do exactly?
They are supposed to create a low pressure zone to pull air down and increase the effectiveness of trunk spoilers and wings.
kognition
11-03-2009, 04:55 AM
Hmmmmm. They look like they would create more drag than anything.
Vortex generators would be better for that. It might pull air down, but very likely the drag would increase with the increased vacuum (low pressure). Vortex generators swirl and influence additional air into the area with no significant drag penalty. There is allready a significant low pressure back there. But it really isn't clean air. If you have a wing, it works best at the roofline. Clean flowing air under the wing is really important. At least in high speed track applications.

I really dont think that "these" roof spoilers are being sold with any intention on performance upgrade.
I'd say its strickly a "style" enhancement.

The 3M would work but there is only one problem. Any one can just rip that wing off your roof when you are not looking.
Origin fitment in general fails
Is this for roof wing or their body kit also? what would you recommend?

^ i think it would be a good idea, especially on fastbacks. the rear windshield slope isn't so high, so the boundary layer would probably want to stay attached most of the way down to the rear wing. i may try this out, maybe.
It does sound like a good idea for a hatch. If I pick up a hatch I'll probably try it, and end up not liking it.
