i would go with 20B.. its a lightweight engine with lots of horsepower potential. that is the best swap if you really want to know.. that or 2jz..

search will reveal that:
everyone on this board is SR crazy.
RB requires considerably more work (its not that hard, just more work than the basically bolt in sr)
there is basically no parts support for the rb20 here. if you break stuff, or need aftermarket stuff, ahh.. shipping from japan only takes a few weeks.
the rb is cheaper but the price of parts and the extra work installing it balances it out. the rb25 is basically the same swap but will, stock for stock, give you a little more HP than an SR, not cost much more, and will give you more torque.
but there still isn't any parts support here.
you really want some answers on the swap, 240sx.org has a bb dedicated to it, and after-dark tuning has a webpage somewhere with lots of stuff about it.
mckinney motorsports should also be able to help you.

oh yeah, keep in mind that some business want cash for information... it may seem greedy but they gotta pay the man and put food on the table.

dartman said it right. search before you ask. or you will almost always feel like a huge retard.

You need to weigh out costs, from start to finish. Because of the craze, you'll find a lot more support for the SR versus the RB. The RB puts out more Hp and torque, definitely but the bottom line is how much do you want to spend? If you consider RB, lean more towards RB25. The RB20 is riddled with problems. Keeping that in mind, you're already looking at a huge difference between the two. A 4 cyl, with 2.0 or a 6 cyl, with 2.5. Keep in mind there is not much that you have to do in order to get over 350/ close to 400 Hp out of the RB. With the SR, it'll take a little more. (did this turn out biased?) My experience working on them and working with people that have them. You need to choose what is it that you really want? Then go from there...

to get either engine to 400 hp is going to take some serious building, and I'm not talking about a one time dyno affair. if you expect to be producing over 350hp on either engine on a day to day basis you are gonna be looking at rebuilding it with at least a new top end.
its a myth that you can get 400 hp out of an RB with simple bolt ons... if your simple bolt on is a real big turbo, it may see 400 hp for a little bit, but the engine wasn't designed to support that and will, eventually, kiss its own *** goodbye.

having said that, either engine is a good place to start to build up a high powered engine.

well with the RB20 you can get clutches, spark plugs, wires, and oil filter from a 90-96 300ZX so i dunno where the parts are not avaiable over here, and also the RB20 is a 2.0 liter inline 6, not a 4 cylinder

Here's how these RB engines stand:

RB20DET(Twin Cam)
Bore & Stroke: 78 X 69.7
Capacity: 1998
Power: 210ps @5600 / 25kg's @4000
Compression: 8.5 to 1

RB25DET(Twin Cam)
Bore & Stroke: 86 X 71.7
Capacity: 2498
Power : 250ps @5600 / 30kg's @4800
Compression: 9 to 1

Both are good. However I am going RB20. My reason is 1)I dont have high HP goals. and 2)it is cheaper. My plan is to get an RB20, swap it in, etc. Then start accumulating little things as I go. Head gasket here, etc. So if somethign DOES break I can have it available. And I believe Night (rb25 guy) is starting to stock RB parts.

I chose the RB25 over the other 2 due to my end goals and what they all start with stock. So that is what needs to be looked at when deciding what engine you want. And about the parts availabilty for the RB25 I know that Mckinney's should be receiving some replacement parts and will start stocking them. But not sure when the parts are arriving.
