What kind of car is this? Do you need to keep giving it gas in order for it to idle? Is your TPS sensor plugged in? Does it feel powerless before 2500, or is it normal until it hits 2500? I have had a few cars come into my work after jump starting that simply blew a fuse, check them all. Details my friend!

Just throwing an idea out there. Try banging on the cat or muffler. If your cat melted and partial debris will be in your pipes clogging it. That will happend sometimes. Like I said, just a thought.

Do you have a check engine light as well?
I'm going to say this seems a lot like a MAF issue and your car is running in limp mode.

ok well lets say your car is idling and you unplug the maf does it try to die down or bogg out? and when you put it back in does it try to idle normally again?

2500 RPM limit means that there sis something wrong with the MAF wiring. Does the car have a AFC ? Did it ever ? Check the signal wire at the ECU. (one of the white ones) Check to make sure you have 12 V on the black / white stripe and ground on the black wires.
