im very new into this sr20 scene. i just bought an 89 fastback and had a friend swap an sr20 redtop in it. it runs great. but is there anything that's a setback to this? having a jap engine in cali? and does anyone know any places where i can get JDM 180sx parts for really cheap?

try this http://www.zilvia.net/f/search.php?s=

Umm, did you even look into the swap before doing it? You can't pass emissions with an SR. Search, b/c there is a lot of info on here about emissions and the SR.

Man, now people are doign the swap without any knowledge of the car/engine  :( what a sad day

Uhh..yeah... generally you weigh the advantages/disadvantages BEFORE you do something. SR20DET is not legal, even if you can get it to meet emissions and seeing as how you're in California the only way you're getting through is with a bribe...

A.) don't buy a 240 then you don't have to worry about it
B.) buy a 240 and don't do the swap
C.) buy a 240, do the swap and move to a different state with less emission laws
D.) bribe people, there's probably a few illegal ways to do it.

For all you people that are worried about emissions,I recomend A or B

I'm not really sure what happens when you fail an emissions test, which you will, but my assumption is that its not a good thing. Check your local laws to find out

You could move to Connecticut. We have NO emissions laws right now at all. None. :D I'm helping a friend of mine do an SR20DET swap over at my neighbor's house. He just got the engine in a couple days ago, still needs to get the downpipe and stuff in the mail before we can start the swap though. He's got an NX2000 though.. front wheel drive.
