The boy whose muscles are turning to bone - TODAY Health (http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/33324573/ns/today-today_health/?GT1=43001)

scary stuff.

an extremely rare genetic condition called fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva, or FOP. There are only about 700 confirmed cases worldwide — about one in every 2 million births. The condition, which causes bone to form from soft tissue, ultimately confines its victims to permanent immobility before taking their lives, usually by the victims’ 40s.

but for some reason when i read this, i was thinking about Wolverine from X Men lol

Poor little guy. Life's going to be hard on him, he's going to experience it in a way none of us can imagine. The things we take for granted (Ability to play sports) hell, being recreational is a risk that can be his undoing.

I was reading about this earlier... I don't think I can imagine a worse way to live... and die.
That's such a sad situation, and I'm feeling for them (I don't even know them). Can't imagine what the parents have to be going though.

wow that sucks, I feel for him and his parents. Makes you think about all the things you complain about and how he wont even have that chance and I bet he wouldnt complain, he would be happy just to experience it...

Seems like an extreme case of a somewhat ordinary happening. Because during broken bones and what not, bruised muscle sometimes forms light bony fragments.

He should work out and build some muscle so he can have strong bones and big muscles. Though the muscles repairing themselves after the workout might turn to bone. :/

i had a ghost rider comic book when i was like 12 and the villain could turn your flesh to bone by touching you and it freaked me the fuck out then. i REALLY would've freaked if i thought it was a REAL condition.

nah man, not a bad day at all...

im just tired of all this news-talk.

like, lets talk about any fucking news, all day everyday.

so here we have a kid with 3 heads, ohhh how sad.

another day we have a kid made of rubber, oh how sad.

look i dont think anyone on this planet needs pity. so the kid is turning into stone, great.. im sorry to hear that. whats a post in a thread going to do about it, nothing.

its all pity. i dont need pity, no one needs pity. if you guys want to do something, send the fucker some flowers or even better, a PS4 or something.

in the meantime, fuck that kid and fuck these sympathy threads.

even better, he can go hang out with the kid in the balloon that pretended to fly away. they can play hide and seek. good luck finding a kid that looks like a frozen statue from Kid Icarus.

WOW!!! If you have any decency of being a human being at least show some respect for the kid by not ranting on about how he should go f*ck himself and float away.

1. Fuck off Mike.

2. Is the kid asking for your pity? No he is not.

3. If you don't wish to pity or well-wish or what ever don't fucking post.

4. Fuck off some more.

5. See sig.

What happens when he falls and bumps his knee, or sprains an ankle? What if he gets hit by a baseball and gets a deep bruise?

Any injury you can imagine could potentially heal as bone.

Pretty much. A few months ago I tore some ligaments in my shoulder as well as beat up my clavicle pretty hard. After taking xrays you could see a couple white fragments. The doctor was telling me how some of the small particles turned into bone. He was telling me how some of the sports players he sees have heavy bone fragmentation from their bodies getting beat up so much.

I'm sure I could've been more exact in describing that but I'm no dr, nor do I claim to be. Just based off of my experiences and what I was told.
