If the mcS14 didn't sell so bad in the states and Nissan didn't end the 240sx in 98. How do you guys think a US market "1999 S15 240SX" would turn out? I think it would simply end up being KA powered again or posibly NA SR20DE. Also would the headlamps simply say "240SX" on them instead of Silvia?

If this car came out now in todays market I'm sure it would have came with the DET though.

speculation like this really is all subjective, and it hurts me to think about it

you know what i mean, it just makes me more frustrated and ****ed at the USDM market...

right now, there is nothing in the US lineup that compares to what the 240sx was when it came out. I guess the closest thing would be a V-6 mustang or something like that.

however, given all the newer cars that are switching to RWD, and all the forced induction stuff thats coming out of the woodwork....
*sigh*
its not going to happen either way, but with the Z car starting at 30k I think there is plenty of room for a no frills RWD sr20det lightweight RWD coupe priced around 20k.

ACTUALLY...i think if it came out nowadays...they woulda re-designed it

it seems to me that the new sports car is a "sporty" car...

peppy...not full out power like the generation of MKIV supras, GEN III RX-7's and 3000GT VR4's

they're going for bigger disp...NON TURBO now...example

350Z...full .5L step up...NO TURBO
RX8...new RENESIS rotary, NO TURBO
G35 aka skyline...no GT-R yet...thinking of using a V6 or even V8 (in japan)

no new MITSU sports car...

ACURA/HONDA...still running the same black and decker powerplants

I think they should have made the S14 exactly like the JDM version. The point of the KA in the S13 was to keep the cost of the car down and insurance for the car down. The S14 was so expensive anyways, and the NA SR was up to 155hp by that point. The KA was fine for the cheaper S13 but the USDM S14 had a major identity crisis and thats why it's sales were poor.

EDIT: also, I forgot about the other reason for the KA, not competing with the the Z. Since the Z was about to meet its demise anyways, thats another reason to go with the SR20DE/SR20DET engines.

lancer is probably faster than most of our cars. probably faster than most of our cars will ever be.

I hate the gay *** altezzas, I'm hoping the aftermarket will respond with some styled closer to the previous generations of evo. heck, if the base model tails fit I'd prefer them to the flaming faggio altezzas that come on the evo.

but its all a moot point cause the only hope I'll have of picking up an evo is grabbing a used one in 5 years when I graduate law school...
blah. school sucks.

I can one up all you, Ive seen the evo race, its ugly and slow, Ill take a WRX with my flamming please.

But yes they would have still called the s15 a 240sx and it wouldnt have had a sr20. I still have faith that there will be a new car for us howeve in the not to distant future.

actually my friend travis has a new EVO. but i have no clue if those ugly things are out yet. the JDM ones are way nicer tho... better bumper. blah blah anywhoo... since it was a nice and rare oppertunity we took it to the streets. :D quartermile (i think) and stop light to stop light, those big bastards are fast. but once we hit the freeway... those things run like old people having sex in molasses. they tach out way too quick i think. its not a good freeway contender. so ha!

anyways... he was tottally stock.. but fast? oh very fast
for me? stock SR, s15 turbo, GTR fmic, 10 psi.

good race tho. but yah. thats it. good nite! holla

mixedwell ;)

BAD INFO! They will not. They're shaped differently. LanEvo taillights are squared off on the corner, Lancer taillights come to a point.

JDM Evo 7 taillights are all-red and will fit. Base 120hp Lancer taillights will not!

Please keep the thread on topic, or I'll be forced to delete it.

If you have anymore comments/questions concerning Mitsu or the Lancer, there ARE other forums for this.

Nitekids, somebody outta smack your for this thread. . .

Oh well, since it's already here :P

If there were an s15 in the US, I imagine it would use an up-tuned KA motor to compete with the newer Celicas and Eclipsens that came out at the time. It would flop again, and nissan would have stopped selling them by now :P

Regardless, there have been more than enough rumors about an entry level sports car from Nissan to go below the Z to keep your hopes up. So. . . keep hoping :-)

i like my s14! KA or not! and, if is had come with a SR20DET then i probably wouldn't have one, because they would have been popular from the get-go, and when i was finally able to afford it there wouldn't be and for sale... :(

NTM, past is past, take what we got and enjoy it! :D
my car is COOOOOOL US-Stock and that's just fine with me!

Had we gotten the S15 with a KA or SR20DE with the inevitable price increase over the 98 model in 99, it would have done just as crappy as our 97-98 S14's did.

The S15 is a great looking car, and so was the S14, but for the price they just didn't compete. All you got was a fast looking car, with high insurance, and realatively little performance to back it up.

Now at $24k with the SR20DET and lesser J's and Q's starting under $20k, the S15 probably would have done really well (maybe not as well as in japan, but well enough). The sports car market was turning around and for the price of an ITR, the S15 would have been great competion and would have pretty much owned the import RWD market, with a viable threat to even the 'merican muscle cars. Turbos were finally coming back into favor, as was rwd, and sport compacts.

What would you have done? A KA S14 or S15 roughly costs the same as a base 350Z given inflation. Would you expect the Z to sell as well as it has with less than 170hp? We all agree it looks fantastic, but it would never sell.

If Nissan brings out another "sports" car....the worse it can have is a vertically opposed Altima 2.5 SE engine.

Either way...my next Nissan car is a G35 coupe with a Greddy twin turbo kit....eh....in four years.
