Anyhow, I have tried at times to wrap my mind around how insanely massive the universe is... And its hard. ..Honestly , one of the biggest things that boggles my mind is the existence of another earth out in the universe. What if that other " earth " like planet is up to par with our technology , or even further down the line, and they are trying to search for other " earth " like planets too. What happens when we're both sending radio waves and stuff into space, and we finally find each other? That would blow my mind.

^yeah, shit is so nuts. seeing 13 billion years ago. that galaxy that has 8x the amount of stars as in the milky way is probably so much different now and has probably collided with other galaxies and all kinds of crazy shit. the milky way and andromeda galaxy are supposed to collide/combine in a couple billion years, but by then the earth will have no atmosphere from the increase of heat/radiation from the sun.

Seriously though, the Universe is still expanding, we really do not know how large it is. We only know how old it is.

If you want to read a really good book thats both trippy and full of facts read God according to God.
It will knock the socks off the most devout atheist as it uses Astronomical Physics among other things to prove the existence of a being that created all of this.
It not only makes sense from a Scientific perspective but it has tons of reference data to back up its conclusions complete with other Scientists that did not believe and now do based on their own Scientific discoveries.

The Universe is pretty damn amazing but what is even more amazing is what created us stems right back to the big bang. Wrap that around your head. In effect we in sense older molecule wise then we sometimes realize. Kinda makes you look at things a little different. Also warps your mind when you start really thinking about it.

I'm 27, and I'd be lucky to see them start a 'good' colony on the Moon. At least they found water.

Like what others said, its amazing to see just whats out there, but we are so pathetic by universe standards. Our sun could 'hickup' and destroy us in the matter of minutes if it wanted to, and we cant even successfully leave our solar system yet.

and get this, lets say we built a solar ship to take the human race out to Alpha Cintauri to seek out a new place to live. The technology of man would surpass that of the first solar-travel-ship, and probably before they ended up there after many years, we'd pass them in a newer space ship, making the whole first voyage void. ...that is, if we survive great disasters here on earth.

It would be nice to have several huge self sustainable ships set off to seek out other places regardless.

i was in big bear over the summer when we had that meteor shower in august...saw over 50 "shooting stars"
