This car has taken about a year to get to this point. I graduate with my bachelors this December so that has been my main priority. I could never find a clean and complete shell like I wanted so I bought a running car and parted it out. I did it this way so I knew nothing was missing and most shells sit around and collect rust.
the car the day I got it. Clean, running s14 with redtop sr20det
http://i34.tinypic.com/ohcg0.jpg
sold all the stuff, then got the engine bay stitch welded and a basic 6pt. cage with nascar door bars(which i regret now). The gussets however look badass. also got a new windshield.
also decided to rent out a shop with a few friends. Office with an AC was big plus:rockon

Installed wilwood brakes and 5 lug. brakes are kind of a wierd setup, but I think it will work.

Bought a jzx90 motor and tranny and stripped it down. Bought a lot of goodies for it. Got the intake mani coated. valve covers will be coated after motor is in.
http://i37.tinypic.com/2mmvgb6.jpg
installed Greddy relocated and motor brackets/mounts
http://i38.tinypic.com/20iigjk.jpg
aeromotive afpr + driftmotion kit + non-trac
http://i37.tinypic.com/1693iqd.jpg
Put the motor in last night, ran into lots of problems. the mounts are custom and turns out they were designed for a mk3 supra r154 and no extended housing. So we were putting the motor in like regular not realizing the shifter isn't clearing. This is awesome b/c the motor sits really far back:eek. What sucks is we had to cut the hole for the shifter.
http://i37.tinypic.com/21kkzkj.jpg
shifter pic. Another problem we ran into was the tranny mount would not line up b/c it was made for a mk3 r154. SO I have to get another custom mount made for the mission
http://i33.tinypic.com/23it08n.jpg
lots of room!

something exciting coming!

rb would've had the turbo on the steering side. it would heat up the bmc and downpipe is kind of hard with the steering shaft. Not saying its impossible, just this way its easier and better.
also, i got a good deal on the motor/tranny so I decided to use it

too bad the 2JZ fits better and will make more power more reliably, stock for stock. Oh and slideways I responded to your PM.

thanks man.
the rb is a little longer also than the 2jz/1jz also, so clearance up front is even worse . I also think the jz is a much better engine. there's a reason why many people swap these instead of rb's. How many times have you seen a rx-7, s2k, or even a corvette with a rb?
not really bashing the RB, they are amazing motors. Lets not turn this thread into a debate. Lets focus on a badass 1jz s14 currently being built.

^^^^^ i agree with that i would have gone RB or SR. For me if its a nissan keep it a nissan.
That is my 2 cents, but props for the car it looks awesome and the engine looks super clean. Cant wait to see more pics and keep up the good work. :)

thank god i'm not the only one.
i'm too much of a purist, i'll always believe sr is the most simple and greatest thing to happen to these cars (yeah i know one of my cars is a driving contradiction). however, regardless, i'm really digging the work on this thing guys. cool looking essence cars have been coming out 1 by 1, really great to see south texas represented well like this :) can't wait to see it finished! (supra motors, while i disagree with them, do sound absolutely AMAZING)

Very nice and unique, That's not what you see on a daily basis!! Good luck with your build.
Regarding the shifter, are you going to do anything to it or you are just gonna live with that?? seems like it is a bit too far back?? And remember to change the water pump before you drop the engine in, they always seems to leak..atleast on my old 1jz..

Well my wife and I have the best of both worlds. An RB vert and a 2jz s14 in the works. But honestly The only RB which compares to a 1jz is the RB26 and that costs 3x the price of a 1jz. The 2jz is the god of the japanese 6 cylinders. Also costs just a few hundred more than a 1jz. Definately subscribing to the thread as I am going to be running the Driftmotion T67 kit on a 2jz here shortly.

So true,
And parts are ever where..not like th Rb2x you must order everything..
Any way on of the con(s) of a xJz swap is:
The DP is 20mm away from the stock fuel lines...a simple crack And woushshshs
You car is on fire...you can swap the WHOLE lines to the other side...but it will be running besides you x'' MP - Catback,
Don't get me wrong...hell i'm swapping a 2JZ into My S14 as we speak.... :dead:
Keep the god work...Oh and about the TB cable...Cut the stock one to the length you need...Or get a 98 lexus LS400 or 2000+ LX470 TB cable...Direct bolt on on supra with aft market intake mani,
udon!

Had a subframe party over the weekend. Both got Powered by Max subframe risers. They should help a little with the insane amount of torque that will be going through them :roflmao. A lot of times axles break b/c the angle of the cv/axle is so off due to the car being so low.
Mine is the powered by max knock off color and Justin has the nismo power brace knock off

Supra engines are an amazing engine, it's the owners that are retarded. No offense, but every Supra I see has a lagtastic Turbo on it that spools at 6K and has a 2k rpm powerband. They make insane amounts of power, but in my mind, that is not a fun car...
The build looks great, It'll be nice to see it up and running. Don't rush anything by any means though. Keep the updates coming.

I understand completely. I'm building this with response and reliability as the two top priorities. Peak hp is the least of my worries.
turbo is a small garrett bb and mid-mount intercooler setup
Boxcar: we were actually talking about this while spraying it. Its a cool idea but it wouldn't look right b/c so many parts of the subframe are hidden

i used other mounts that were custom made.
the ruckus mounts work good though. one of my friends uses them.
I have been seeing a lot of interest lately with people that are doing the swap and people that are thinking about it. Feel free to ask me an questions about it.
p.s. I have lots of updates coming, just need to find my camera and take pics.

some more updates. All the little stuff takes forever!
installed clutch master with ss line to slave. During bleeding, some brake fluid leaked out on the engine bay. Didnt see it til the next day when all the paint was fucked up. So I had to repaint a section of the bay
http://i37.tinypic.com/29ljqyo.jpg
Mounted the pbm air separator thing

got the subframe in with the risers, arms, 2 way, etc.

http://i38.tinypic.com/2exshll.jpg
a pic of the risers to show how much it raises it. You run into some problems with the risers. Have to relocate e-brake cables, deep wall socket doesn't fit into the differential bolts in the subframe, the ruca bolts have to go in backwards.
http://i38.tinypic.com/zt9079.jpg
Also got a steel driveshaft made rated to over 600ish.

Looking good so far. I will definitely be watching this one for updates. Are you going with a "name brand" or custom manifold? Just curious as to what your plan is for the downpipe and other exhaust components. My friend dismantled his MKIII and is letting me get his Blitz TT setup, so I just wanted to see how you planned. ordered some shit. Pictures will explain. The stock fuel lines have been replaced by stainless steel lines under the car. Feed and return are -6. I chose to do this to avoid having an ugly cross over pipe in the engine bay to provide fuel. The stainless steel lines made it much easier to run the lines on the left side of the car.

that intercooler looks tiny in the pictures. Its actually pretty thick. Its as thick as the core support at the top at its widest. Also, i'm not going to run a grill

Not many more updates other than a dyno vid. Car will be put on hold for 2-3 months while I iron out some family stuff and some job issues. I will keep working on little stuff here and there. Its easier to take a small break instead of selling the car and starting over. Also, there's not that many Houston events anyways, so its a good time to hang back a bit. The car still needs lots of little things, but for now enjoy the video. Sorry about the uglyness of the car. Its easier to work on when 4x4 height.

sorry guys, i would like to keep it a secret until after the first event. I have lots of updates coming very soon. I am moving this next weekend coming up so after that I will finish it up
I switched to a hydraulic e-brake. I got it mounted and everything, just have to make lines and hook it up. You guys are going to love the install, instead of cutting the center console off like most people do, I have everything hidden underneath it. The only thing you see is the lever and it comes out of the stock e-brake hole

slideways2004
05-13-2011, 09:41 PM
yea one of the problems is I always forget to take a camera when i go work on my car.
the cross over is pretty simple. downpipe goes down right side of the car and then crosses over to the left side. lol
just have to get it as close as possible to the body as you can.

did you use a s chassis exhaust? or fab up a custom one?
since the manifold is on the other side, u'd need at least a crossover pipe. i mean a s14 exhaust wont "bolt on" if that's what u are referring to custom!

05-14-2011, 11:22 AM
No no I didn't mean bolt on haha I've read that a couple people have been able to use a normal exhaust instead of fabricating up new one. I want to keep using my buddy club spec 2, so I was looking for some cross over pipe pictures, if you have any.

i modified a s15 dart izumi exhaust. the axle back part just bolted on, the mid-pipe is where i did all the modifying. I'll take pics when i go work on it today!

slideways2004
05-15-2011, 03:32 PM
Now for the hydraulic e-brake, z32 bmc and semi-brake line tuck.
Design out your system on a piece of paper. Write down EVERY fitting and line you need. Go order, flare and install. A lot of the hard lines arent pictured. One of them is like 60" long
Seems like a lot of stuff but this also includes front brake lines. I made everything custom from the master cylinder all the way to the caliper.
http://i52.tinypic.com/bet402.jpg
Measure and buy appropriate length brake line. This is the shortest. I had longer ones that aren't pictured.
http://i52.tinypic.com/29eu05.jpg
Measure again and make your bends.
http://i55.tinypic.com/rhn4tt.jpg
You can see here the banjo fitting. 7/16 - 24 to -3AN
http://i51.tinypic.com/2iglndf.jpg
Connect the hard line coming from the master cylinder to the cylinder on the ebake.
http://i52.tinypic.com/11aei9z.jpg
slideways2004
05-15-2011, 03:39 PM
Next, cut and flare the stock hard line going down the passenger side of the car going to the rear brakes. I made my cut right behind the front passenger seat. This is just one of my practice peices. I didn't know how to make double flares so I just used single flares for AN fittings. Also, I made the flare with the line on the car because in order to take the line off, you have to lower the subframe.
http://i55.tinypic.com/osaebs.jpg
Done! Now connect to the outlet on the ebrake and bleed away. The stock brake line is 3/16" and the AN fittings are -3

I also made a little plate so the wheel doesnt dig into the aluminum tension rod b/c of the knuckles. I used the thread holes in the spl arms that are there for brake deflectors to mount them.

Drove the car today at the GGP event. Ran amazing for a couple of hours and I did decent for first time driving in almost 3 years. After a couple of hours, it started breaking up at about 5K. I didn't have enough energy to diagnose the problem, so i just packed it up after that.
It's been a crazy couple of weeks trying to get the car ready. While trying to get it on the trailer this morning, the exhaust clamp came off and got damaged. Just gettting a trailer was a story in itself.
Driving the car was an amazing feeling. All the hard work, sweat, blood, and tears that has went into this car has been worth it all. I just want to thank all the people that have helped me out. Justin and Andrew of Essence Garage! We're back! Brodrigo for his expertise in everything. Derrick for his fabrication and wisdom. Roberto for all his help and being a badass shop mate. Aaron Diamond for all the help with loading and stuff. Aaron Losey for putting on awesome events.
If i forgot anyone I apologize, but I'm sure I thanked you in person. Here's a couple of pics Aaron took. I'm sure others will pop-up soon.
