I just got done with my Walbro installation. I am a little curious about the wiring. The connector to the Walbro is pretty much submerged and the butt splices could potentially get wet with gas. Is this ok?

I made the butt splices pretty close to the pump.....about were the wires are circled in the pic below. Is this also ok? or should they be further away from the fuel.

I thought it was a little weird having electrical connections in gasoline but I guess its ok. The oem pumps connections are pretty much in the gas.

its not the gas that causes fire...its the fumes

You should just solder the wires instead of using butt connectors. Better connection and no chance of getting loose.

^^^ This is want i did. its the best way to connect to lines but I had a hell of a time getting a good connection for the solder with it being rusted out from the gas and age.

I probably will solder it on there but its too late now. Gotta get another plug from walbro. My sh*t was pretty rusty on the outside. Luckily the inside was clean. I need to por15 the hell out of this car.

yeah you gotta learn the basics of how it works. Air Fuel Spark = boom. There is not a whole lot of air in the gas tank. With any flammable material you can check the MSDS to see how many PPM it needs before it is a hazzard. Either way, re-wire it if you dont feel its safe.

One of the best tricks we play on noobies at my work is throwing lit cig butts into diesel. Nothing happens, but some of them dive for cover.

Yes, I did it to mine too. I think people try to use butt connectors because they come with the kit???? Forget about butt connectors and do this for sure.

i used the little crimp things supplied with the kit and it's been fine. gasoline isn't going to short out the wires if that's what you are implying

I was a little worried about a short. Don't want the ass end of my car blowing up.

^TRUTH!

you should be ok, like somone up there ^ said there isnt a lot of air in a gas tank, if you really want to be safe use the clip connectors that have the rubber over shields. no chance of spark.

Gasoline isn't a conductor. Electricity won't travel through it.
