if back up lights doesnt work, then it should be one of those 3 sensors at the side of your tranny.. i forgot which one is which now tho.. i think the middle one is the back up light, and the one nearest to the bellhousing is the neutral sensor.. and, you might want to check your speed sensor too..
correct me if im wrong tho, im not an expert on this!

Transmission is NOT different. The VSS is though.

bellhousing is. no crank sensor in s13 bellhousing. also the sensors are different.

Which has what to do with the speedometer? Nothing.
The transmission is the same, period. There are changes throughout the run on switches, but that has nothing to do with the OP's problem.
And as I've typed it a thousand times on here, the crank position sensor doesn't do anything anyway except keep the CEL off.

i know all that, but it is different. you should have specified that. there are people who will read this who dont know any better, then when they make a mistake they will get attacked as a newb, by people like you.

There's no need to specify. If anyone searches, they will find countless posts where I personally have made the exact statements as above. The transmission is the same, period. The fitment of different switches has no effect on the operation of the transmission or the engine and has no bearing on application, other than the CEL being triggered. Nothing matters electrically on the transmission for driveability.

If you used a s13 tranny you need a s14 speed sensor.

Exaclty!!! And make sure it's from a 5 speed car, because the auto and manual speed sensors are different. I learned the hard way.

You need a s14 VSS(manual transmission), Project RDM knows his shit, listen to him!!!
Check this link out(my own post), Project RDM helped me out tons with my lower harness told me exactly what to hook up and what not to hook up lol...
