i currently have an s13 with flip headlights
today i changed my lights to hids and while attempting to drive it at night time something happened.
one of the headlights stayed down while the other one flips up.
the driver side flips up while the passenger side stays down. i would have to pull it up for it stay up.
then i thought driving it around would be okay. so i drove it around and i notice my dvd player started flicking on and off. and my passenger light turned off.
and my battery was running low.
i didn't turn on ac or anything.
i just had my battery replaced last week and new groundings.
PLEASE HELP

FYI. This is not an HID problem. This is an electrical problem.
Check you inner fender harness to see if it got cut up by your tires.

Don't see it being the alternator
Definatley a wiring problem/ short somewhere....
Hid's are suppose to use less power

Sounds like a short in your fender harness.
Is the car lowered?

you might need a relay harness, because it seems like your HID is not drawing the proper power that it needs to. If you have a relay installed, then it might fix some of the issues.

i just took it for a ride today
car is at 11.9V and after driving it for 15 mins it went down to 8.3V
my dvd player shut down. my left hid light stop working but my right worked.
idle was going down. i would have to rev it to keep it up. and everytime i full throttle it feels like it skips.
is it my connection?
and yes my car was lowered.

Did you check your fender harness? -_-
And the battery voltage went down after the car was not running? Or what?

^^ i check. my lights went up and down this morning. so its the battery problem.
yeah .
2-3 days ago in the morning the power was at 12.4V
i checked this morning it was at 11.9
and after 15 of cruising it went down to 8.3
is it my connection? or my alternator?

OK, so WTF have you done to fix the problem besides "drive it around"?
That's not going to fix ANYTHING.
Have you looked at ANY of the stuff we told you to look at?
What's the point in asking for help if you don't tell us what you've done?

possibly a fender harness short. or just a loose battery connection.. Did you mess with the battery while putting HID on.. Not that you have mess it with, but you never know with some people...

You have a charging problem! first check for damage(AKA) Fender harness etc. good advise
Ground connection! AKA check your battery terminals etc. All the information to remedy your problem is in this thread. Worst case scenario...New alternator. Let the others know what you have done, will do and can't do. So they can help you better. Zip it up! Zip It Out! and a Zippiddy doodah....!

while the car is running remove the positive terminal from your battery, if it dies you have a bad alternator. quick way to check it. make sure you power off your cd player or what not.

i just went outside to check.
i havent ran the car at all today and the battery lvl is at 8.9V
is it bad grounding?

No. Ground connections don't discharge a battery. You have a voltage draw somewhere in the car, and the battery is apparently shit. Fix the problem, replace the battery.
Since you mention the HIDs, start there. Unplug them. See what happens. This isn't brain surgery, your car was fine, you made a change, and now you have a problem. The culprit has to be something you did during the change.

power off the cd player because you dont want it to skip while you're doing this high-tech alternator test. if it starts skipping, it will be embarrassing and people will laugh at you.
then, while the car is idling.. take the positive battery connection and rapidly tap it over the positive battery terminal, this will produce a pulse-wave effect that will reveal whether or not your alternator is really at fault.
remember, do this while the car is running.. great way to do the test, just like the above poster said.
under no circumstance do i suggest removing the alternator and taking it to a specialist for alternator testing. instead, listen to the guy above. some random individual on a forum has more knowledge than a professional.

i just jump cable my wire
and then i took out the red terminal and the car shut off.
is that bad alternator?
iambape
10-11-2009, 05:00 PM
am i suppose to rapidly tap it over the positive term?
or jsut take it out?

10-11-2009, 05:19 PM
well, treid that
as soon as it get loose power goes off
so im pretty sure its the alternator then..
another question:
when my car gets hot it doesnt feel like starting.
is that a solenoid problme?

What does this have to do with this thread?
I ran HIDs with those housings.
Anyways,
OP if you couldn't tell, Mamos was being sarcastic.

it was off topic, and i remember'd mike talking about in the retrofit threads about
running E code headlights rather then retrofitting.
to mike,
so on the website it talks about bulbs and the lighting.
hmm interesting but i was just wondering if you do you have
the ecode replacement headlights and running it with the HID's.
or you were just being sarcastic about putting hid's in your car.
