Timing chain

Hi

Yesterday i looked at my timing by taking off my valve cover (SOHC). One of my guide were broken (the one at the right) and i hear a rattle from my oil pan every time i start the car.

I just wanted to know how to look for a bad timing chain .. excessive wear on the chain? a Loose Chain ?

the fact that the guide broke is already a bad sign. better get the guides/tensioner/chain replaced soon if you don't want a bigger problem in a couple months. that rattle noise will normally only go on for a couple months until your screwed.:D

dunno, mines a DOHC and i have a rattle, though not a huge one.

I took it in and he said it was teh timing chain and that it was normal.
