Which one would you chose? I'm looking at a 1985 toyota corolla sr5 hatchback here are some pic's AE86 pic's (http://photos.yahoo.com/benzz280) I love nissan but i think it would be cool to get a ae86. let me know what you think. If you have any give me some pro's and con's of each one. Thank's everyone.

SR5 = SOHC, carburetor, rear drum brakes, weaker rear diff with no LSD available.

Worthless IMO unless you have a GT-S parts car.

The 240SX is a newer, faster car that's better to drive out of the box. That's enough for me.

if i do get the car i will put a 4age in.

it depends how much it is and how easy for you to get the parts so that it can perform better and or for some part breaks down and also are the parts expensive or not when compare with the parts of a 240.

edit : sr5 is a 85 not 86

SR5? JUNK!!!
dont buy it
to get it to a GTS spec is a lot of work
people do know how to do it (I heard max misawa is da biggity bomb at dis)

but $$$ to do such
check club4ag articles for info on that conversion!

i would get the s13

s13 is bad enough being 9+ years old

imagine a car from the year of '86!
it takes a lot of work and $$ to get it to spec as well.

of course everyone here will say to get a S13, myself included. IMO S13's are in a different class the hachiroku. I'd say talk in the 4ag forums and see what they say (though, I bet they will say go with the 86), ultimately, it's your money... you decide what you would really want

depends what your plans are with the car, like racing or drift, or whatever. IF you guess it would be cool to have a corolla... than might as well get a gt-s

Thanks for the info. If i do decide to get a ae86 then i will get a gt-s. so my search goes on. It's hard to find a s13 5-speed or a ae86 gt-s around chicago. I'll wait to find the right one. :D

ahhaa, this is pretty amusing...
isn't this just like an initial D episode? where takumi's wannabe drifter friend wants a car and gets hachi go? hehee

Haha, yeah. And Iketani and Kenji laugh at him til he runs away and starts crying. Itsuki's whole purpose in that show was comic relief, I swear. :P

Yeah, I'll admit it, despite how bad everyone thinks it is I love it. :(

Is the SR5 rear wheel drive? That's the most important part. I could have sworn it wasn't but I may be wrong. I was looking at a Corolla GT-S for a while but finally decided I didn't want to put up with the hassle of upkeeping a car that's that old. An S13 really is old enough already, do you really want to step back another 6 or so years? Performance wise, I think the S13 is a better car. I think the primary reason they were so popular with drifters (in Japan anyway) is because they were cheap... not because they were outstanding performers (not to say they aren't.. the Trueno GT Apex is pretty nice). It's probably going to be a bit more reliable also just because it's quite a bit newer so you'll be getting less miles and less head aches that come with an older car.

If you want to be like Takumi then you're going to have to get that 86 though. :D

if i wanted a drift car, which i dont, i would consider the ae86. but would probably still keep my 240sx. newer car, most likely cheaper in the same shape, more attractive, little things

There's no specific range, because these cars are very much "cult". Not nearly as cult as in Japan, but thanks to Initial D, the Toyota Corolla GT-S is still gaining a following in the States. I will tell you one thing, for the most part, these cars are OVERPRICED at the moment.

The AE86 is still a great 'grip' car. Remember, drift is just car control. What makes a car a "good drift car" is being controllable.

Toyota used the AE86 for serious racing for many years after it left production. Keiichi Tsuchiya may have made his name as a drifter, but watch him drive his TRD AE86 race car. Incredible.

sigh. hachis handle like crud!!!
the reason they are such great cars is because they multiply and show you HOW CRAPPY A DRIVE YOU ARE, and you have to improve. when you do, its awesome.

they take lots of attention in drifting. constant attention. s13, flick sideways, few fixin, easy.

any car can drift. its all about the driver! NOT THE CAR!

haha, doesn't this sound like something from initial d too when bunta was saying the ae86 is the best car for a driver like takumi to learn how to drift..

anyways, chitown, if you do get the SR5, to convert it to GT-S is a lot of money. well, you can always upgrade convert like get an after market kazz lsd. i was considering doing this too when i saw an sr5 for $500 but i already had a 240 at the time and decidely i would just put all my efforts to my pride and joy instead of taking away from it to mod the sr5. after i looked at club4ags article, i decided that i would be taking more money than i wanted away from my 240. but if you have one car, maybe its worth it to upgrade while converting the sr5. i think its better off to get a GTS if you really want an ae86.

btw, why swap a 4ag? b/c tukumi has that engine? why not go better like 4agZe from an older mr2. if you wanna go n/a you can consider the 20valve 4ag and you can even turbo that if you rather go turbo than supercharge.

86s are so expensive now, it almost kills the point for thier popularity [ CHEAP! ] and the 240 scene is also growing very fast more and more ppl are wanting "silvias" .. just type 240SX on ebay and u'll know what i mean.

anyways. SR-5 >> GT-S..

are planning on swapping a
4A-GZE?
HI COMP 4A-GE?
20V 4A-GE?
SR20DET?
etc etc etc

also are you planning on upgrading the suspension and brakes right away?

if not get the S13. its a better car STOCK to STOCK than a AE86 SR-5
