crazy temperature gauge

My temperature gauge doesn't work...usually it bounces around all over.  It was like this when I got the car, and I don't know if the previous owner tampered with anything.  Got any idea what could be wrong with it?
It's not that big a deal, but it does get annoying seeing that thing bounce around out of the corner of my eye.

hahha mine does too
mine is a 1990 and my temp guage goes up then when i smack the dash it comes back down
just buy an aftermarket guage

an after market gauge wont fix it.... and I'm not too sure how to fix it. The dealer will charge you an arm and a leg so look on Ebay for an used s13 Console.

just get a water temp guage from Autometer
u always can use that....
