Anyone that knows anything about early import drag racing and drifting knows we lost an important man.

R.I.P. buddy.

We have received word this morning that NuFormz/Sam Hubinette team owner Shaun Carlson has past away at his home in Long Beach last night. No details are available but Brad from NuFormz and some others have reached out to us to provide the limited information available. So many people in the automotive industry share such great moments about him from drag racing and drifting. My good Honda buddy Phil Luis always talked about how he was the “first one to build a tube chassis drag Honda” well before anyone else was thinking on that level.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the whole NuFormz Racing crew along with Sam Hubinette who are now missing a huge piece of their Formula Drift championship team. He was such an innovator in the drag racing community and drifting over the last decade it’s hard to even imagine a weekend at the track without him. Recently he had some heart problems and been to the hospital but we are not sure if that is what happened. Here is a quote from MOPAR Speed about his health recently.Carlson was discharged from the hospital nearly two weeks ago. He has since paid a few visits to his NuFormz Racing shop, but has been placed on restricted duty, which means absolutely no work or stress. On his ICD device, Carlson joked, “It’s in a cool titanium case. I now have a Social Security number and a serial number! It’s like my own 24-hour paramedic. I don’t have a problem with the plumbing side of my heart, but with the electrical side. Everything inside me is fine, but I inherited a gene that leads to this disease.
We will keep you updated on this tragic story as much as we can.
