S14 240SX LE ABS light always on

1997 S14 LE

Start the car, ABS light goes on, goes off, then stays on.
No brake fluid leaks, brake reservoir is full at normal level.

Any idea on the cause and how to fix? Where in the car should I be looking at for repairs?

I got new wheels and coilovers two days ago, would the speedometer changes cause the ABS module to malfunction?

Is the car safe to drive for the longterm with the ABS light on? To be honest, even when the light wasn't on, it never really felt like the car used the ABS system, even though it has it. I've never felt it engage even in emergency braking.

The FSM has a section on the ABS system including diagnostics, the light flashes a code just like the checking engine and OD lights. Follow the procedure outlined to pull the codes.

You're safe in the meantime, as a failsafe the ABS simply won't work if there's an issue.
