anyone ever heard of STD coilovers?
a fellow zilvian wants to trade these "STD" coilovers for my Megan tracks.

never heard of em, googled em, searched on zilvia, and nicoclub and nothing.

found the website and their suspension looks cheap.

maybe i should stick with the megans?

anyone else heard of STD aka "Standard" Coilovers

Don't do it. I know a few GS300s that run them and say they make a lot of clunking noises, that's just GS though. The only cool thing about them is they have marking on the coilovers so you can see how high to adjust. Ill get a picture later today if I can snap a few.

Edit:
I found an old picture.

I have driven on them on canyon roads many times on a 240 and they are leaps and bounds better than megan ish. I have also been in seveal vip cars with them and no issues. no clunking or anything. They can go low enough. Just not mat powes spec. Lol

I would not trust STD coilovers. The sponsor on the front bumper of that picture says "Win-win Vegetable Wholesale" The sponsor on the hood is some kind of Japanese restaurant. I'm sure these coilovers would make a killer car for fast food delivery.

lol, heres something i got from the Prelude forums/googling/searching.

...It's a K sport Kontrol clone. It's the same "compression-rebound" adjustment system that the Ksport Kontrol/Tein SS/Tokico Illumina uses. The best part is the way they are trying to market it

STD R7 Time Attack suspension systems feature increased damping force and special racing fluid for racing use. With this feature, you will feel a greater difference in damping force adjustment every time you make a damping adjustment. The R7 Time Attack suspension system is designed for roll cage track cars.

Scaled suspension system for easier installation.
Full length adjustment system on lower mount
Separate ride height and pre-load adjustments
Aluminum alloy construction: lower mount, top mount, spring seat and locks
Multi-positional manual damping force adjustment*
Front top mount includes an adjustable camber plate**
Front & rear suspensionhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/2.gif (http://www.preludepower.com/forums/showthread.php?t=309646#) are mounted on a pillow ball
Increased damping forces & special racing fluid for racing use

We can't express how much for "racing" use this suspension system is. It's so "racy" it should be illegal for use on the street lol.

"Custom spring rate to match your racing skills"
There's that word again.

Really though, if you want suspension like this, just buy Ksport's so we don't have another company making a carbon copy of "compression-rebound" shocks with cool knobs and colors.

i guess these are canadian coilovers. Lol.
most info is Canada related. and their site has canada contact info

I would second trading the megans for them. I have tein he coilovers and they ride bouncy as shit in comparison to my brothers standards, his do not make clunking noises or anything like that, also have been in a few moded, Lexus ls, gs that have these coils and ride good and go low.
I would say they are beter than d2/megan/ksport/some tein/godspeed/my old Nismo coilovers. good bang for the buck. I would trade him your megans for them, but I would check the bushings on the bottom of the coilover for cracks, or wear.

I know that guy with the xb, I think his name is Eric? It white and he has it kinda vip styled? Pretty clean. He says he loves them.

"China spec". Is a slang term for cheaply made parts that are usually coppies that are of poor quality.
These are none of the above so again your wrong.
You'd be suprised at how many parts that ae "made in japan" actually are engineered an made in china or taiwan and then sent in pieces to japan and assembled and claimed to be a japanese part.
But hey ignorance is bliss right?

Awesome photo. I can imagine a whole STD Coilovers smear-ad campain:

"Just say no to STD's."
"I had a friend with STD's once. Want to know where he is now? He's dead!"
"Sure, she seemed nice, said it was her first time - but you caught yourself a burner."

I have a set of these in my stock KA S14, been drifting and tracking them for 3 years and they are still fine. I probably put 30K hard miles on them.

I also had a set of Megan street and the STD is by far better. They go pretty low, as low as the Stance they replaced.

I like them a lot actually but yea bad name. I got this a lot:
"What coilovers are you running?"
"STDs"
"huh?"

btw I got mine here: http://zilvia.net/f/sale-items/164010-suppa-gangsta-s14-dampers-cheap.html

These coilovers were surprisingly legit. If you see IHaslongTorso at any of the local meets, ask him for a ride in his vert youll be surprised at how comfortable these are, Nothing like megans at all. Also the adjustability is "True" and everyclick you can actually feel a real difference in dampening force.

I know, for USA it could be a unknow brand. But Here in Canada these are very popular. Like people said many DMCC drifters ride them and love em. You really cannot compare these to Megan. They are nearly twice the price (R7). But if you want to support Canadian Brand, SELEX SUSPENSION is tha real sh!t. I ride there Pro-Drift coilover and i never seen something like this before. (I try Tein-Apexi-Gab Sport & Tanabe)

To stay in-topic, YES TRADE IT at least they are blown.

Nice try at late humor. Sti and std are 2 different things. Look it up. Second. Many coilovers are mae in taiwan which isn't china for those of you who get confuse so easilly. I also like how all these people who have no experience with them try talking ish. The companies I can name that I happen to know for a fact are made in taiwan or china would make half the members on here want to commit suicide. But I'm not going to do that because its not my place to do that. Just know that if you have coilovers, any coilovers. You have a higher chance at them being made in taiwan or china and not japan like most assume.

WISH ONE
10-09-2009, 11:01 AM
exactly^. The same goes for alot of so called U.S.A. made products, a product can be fully made in china or taiwan, and shipped to the US and to be able to say the product was made here it only has to be altered by 10 or 20% I dont remember exactly. Within the past few years Taiwan has been stepping up the quality of their products and have the same quality machinery and the same ISO ratings as some of the "higher quality" japanese manufacturers.

Maybe the megans fit his color scheme...........

Who knows. I look at it like this, the valving and spring rate are what makes coilovers great or suck. Just go with the company that you like and get the stuff you want. To easy.

I laughed hard as hell when I thought to myself how I would tell people my car had STDs.
