Hey. I did some searching on google and Zilvia to try and find some information or a resolution on this issue, but found nothing. I'm aware that the S15 tranny is an overall weak tranny, and have already had to replace it once.

As I was driving last night my car felt just fine. As I was driving home today I noticed that my shifter felt kind of loose. While at a red light I pushed it side to side and it became very loose. Now if i tap the shifter in one direction (in neutral and in gear) it will bounce back and forth a couple times. There is no performance difference, and it still firmly goes into all gears and stays in with no issues. When my previous tranny was going bad I was experiencing difficulty with both getting it into gears and getting it to stay in gears. This feels nothing even close to that. I'd appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction or give me any good advice. If any additional info is needed then lmk.

tl;dr: s15 shifter went from normal to very bouncy out of nowhere. gearing still feels solid. wtf?

You might want to check your shift linkage.

It sounds like the plastic bushing at the very bottom of the shifter itself broke off. This is very easy to fix, sometimes this bushings are included when you buy short shifters.

Hopefully it's something cheap and easy like the plastic bushing. If it is that, hopefully I can pick up a bushing at a local Auto Zone or something.

I'm gonna see what I can find today based on your guys' suggestions, so thanks a lot for posting! Also, if anyone else has any theories then please post them. Any advice on this is helpful to me.

shift linkage LOL

plastic bushing is done and worn out. replace it with a new one from the nissan dealer. cost should be around 5-10 bucks for it. no one else carries it besides nissan dealers for that bushing.

pull out the shifter to replace it.

OTC parts store won't have the bushing. Dealer. Same as the KA. Or buy a Cusco brass bushing.

The cusco one looks sexy! I'll be getting that asap. I have a B&M short shifter sitting around that works for every SR tranny but mine. Is it possible to modify anything on this thing to make it work on my 6MT S15 tranny? If so, I'll just go that route. If not, what's holding it back from working on my tranny besides a couple of bolts not lining up on the mounting bracket?
