im talking about in an s13. at first i wanted to loose some weight and the obvious things were soud deading, ac, ps, back seat, etc. so i started on the trunk area and then the back seat. i took out the tar and tried to clean up the little bit left over w/ brake cleaner(i dont recommend this) then got really dizzy and used simple green;) . now im was gonna take the rest of the carpet out from the from but i seems like it might be a waste of time and also it will be be hella loud i think. its gonna be a daily driver and i havent driven it yet seeing as it is a project. does anyone have any pics of a stripped s13 interoir? thats really what i want. thanks

Yes i had it in a S14 but in the end it didnt do much.
so i put back the doors, dash, center console, and rear side things...
ditched the backseats, seatbelt assemblies, carpet, spare, jack, etc. My car doesnt make any more noise then with a full interior, and it also does not feel anyfaster. I removed things to save weight displaced by a stereo system. I also think i am screwing the weight ratio too so I'm planning a few more goodies to fix it (cf hood, relocate battery, relocate/drain washer fluid).
oh btw, the heaviest things in the entire interior is the rear seatbelts, and assemblies that go with them...
the only problem with it is that the car gets extremely hot when left outside... so put it in a garage like its supposed to be~
theres quite a few pics of stripped S13's around! Try freshalloy and nico, they seem to be more prevalent then here.

mine will be almost full stripped this summer
just leaving:
front seats
dash
carpeting
console
everything else will be down to the bare metal and no sound deadening whatsoever.
might pull AC but probably not till go SR, then no AC
right now:
no back seats no carpeting past the front seats
sound deadning isnt out yet, going to do iton this summer's big kick of stripping out the car :)

i think stripped down interiors are sweeet... i wanna switch to manual seat belts, b/c that whole system is heavy!! i may not even do that, and just go with harnesses. so far ive pulled out the AC system (except the part under the dash, but ill get to it), AIV system, rear seat belts, rear seats, all the trunk trim, stock seat was replaced with a light sparco, removed the sound deading, rear speakers, and thats probably about it. when i pull my engine for a new one or rebuild or whatever i end up doing, im sure ill go more extreme.

things that suck about no interior/sounddeadening
its LOUD
in the rain cant hear much and no fender lining doesnt help
also with a noisy LSD it gets annoying around the city. clunk clunk clunk all over.
but its great at the track :) light and nimble!

Funny you should ask. I just did this yesterday. I have pics, but didn't upload them yet. E-mail me and I can send them to you.
Dash and metal bar are still sitting in my room to be reinstalled. I got all the tar out except under driver's foot area. My dry ice was disappearing fast and that tar seemed especially compacted. Makes sense if you think about it.
Everything under dash is gone. I have been driving around with no dash, but it's kinda ghetto. Got to get the last peices of tar off and respray the interior before the plastics go back in.
Here are quick and dirty estimates of the weight savings so far;
spare tire & tools 25
rear shelf/speakers 15
rear seats 22
front seats 60
firewall padding 30
floor tar 25
air conditioning 40
I have two Recaro seats in my living room awaiting some custom brackets. Looking at about 200lbs with just driver side seat reinstalled.
Too many mods, not enough time and money.

True dat! I stripped out my last car, everything except the dash and drivers seat. Lots of fun but it sucked in the rain. At certain rpm's the car would vibrate and annoy the crap out of me. It was so loud you could hear it rattle and vibrate over the sound of the exhaust outside the car  I think I damaged my hearing even more so after that :(
Not worth it IMO, but do what you gotta do. There is alot of weight in the interior. It was loud enough driving around with my rear completely gutted and tar removed with the seat removed. I couldnt imagine the whole car nakid. F' that.
This is my 89 Coupe when we parted it out. I drove it like that, although I used some cushions from my couch as a seat. :)

I stripped my baby when I first got her. I took out the side panels in the rear, rear seat belts, carpeting thru out the whole car, sound deadening, I'm not completely done but its almost completely stripped all I have to do is strip the hatch. The only hard part to me was the sound deadening it is a pain to get out with a heatgun if you want it to look perfect like me.
Sorry I have no pics

what can i do about the motoized seat belts? can i just remove the motor and will the sliding part stay up there? i have speaco evo's waiting to go in and i dont wanna get a harness cause i dont think it would be a good idea in case i get in an accident, if i had a role cage i would but not for daily driving

Really...
There are things I can stand in a street car. Having no accessories or stereo doesn't bother me. I specifically hate sunroofs. But, having an empty cabin isn't my thing. Too loud, too hot, too cold, and if it's not done completely, things look awful.
If you want to save significant weight without gutting, these are things you can do:
Remove automatic belts. The tracks and motors are heavy.
Remove the rear seat and carpet the area left behind. Done right you can make the car look like a factory 2 seater.
Go with composite-shell bucket seats. Even fiberglass seats are quite light compared to stock seats or tube frame buckets, no need to drop a grand on carbon fiber.
If you have a power sunroof, remove it and block it off. Flip-ups aren't all that heavy, though.. not worth the work unless you're anal.
Personally, even though my 240SX is primarily a track car, it does see more street miles. It's not a race car so my main concern is making it FUN to drive (not as fast as possible). All my mods and tweaks go towards this goal... including keeping the full interior.

well this is a project car and im coming from a 97 civic couoe w/a greddy turbo so i am just used to getting rid fo stuff. also i have sparco evo seats. i am just trying to get every advantage possible when i go to the track for times. its more like a weekend warrior car than daily driver because i put my civic back to stock. my first car i worked on was a 1976 triumph spitfire that my dad helped me put a 302 in. i thought of putting a 350 in the 240 but i figured why ruin it and do that. i just want a real fun car to drive in and maybe autox or drift in. im on the east coast where the jdm thing is just starting to hit and the drift scene hasnt taken off yet. i want to be original and differnet. altezza tailights are still "cool" here i tihnk they are gay but what ever

Read this in a magazine, sounds pretty accurate I guess...
They said something like, for every 10lbs. you take off, it's like adding 1hp.

well heres my story
went to the track, full interior
60 ft 2.1
1/4 15.3
MPH 87
:D
go home and take the interior out except the carpet
60 ft 2.3
1/4 15.3
mph 89
:o
from taking out my interior i lost some of my launching power traction but gained a few mph in the end
mainly i was ****ed bc i took all that crap out for nothing, but a good lesson nonetheless

our rear seats are virtually useless since there is absolutely no leg room so i took mine out. i have an s14 with leather and it weighed 30lbs. however, since they are very comfortable you can do what im doing and use them to build a couch. all you need is a frame and then you can just bolt the seats into it.

Heres my view on all this. Maybe off of a stock car removing wieght from it isnt such a big thing, or maybe its that ive just grown very sensitive to changes in my car. I just gutted the rear of my car, taking out 90% of the Tar (chizzled it out, if anyone has a way of getting it out easily PLEASE let me know). My battery is in the center where my spare used to be cause of my turbo. Now what Ive noticed is that my rear, is ETREMELY light, and the front feels VERY heavy. I need to go through and take the wieght out of the front now cause Ive thrown my distribution off. I feel though that taking everything out will make the car alot more nimble and thats whats important to me since im not too concerned over 1/4 mile times. But besides the noise, stripping the car I feel is worth it.
