Speedometer Question

I have a quick question for all of you:
I just baught a 90 240, and when i got it and drove it, the speedometer would start off telling the MPH but every now and then it will just drop to 0 MPH's while i am still driving. Does anyone know what is going on, or how to fix it?

possible problems.....

1) speed sensor
2) harness continuity (shorting out wires, improper connections/connectors)
3) Gauge cluster
4) A combination of the above......

Different methods to diagnose each one....start out with tracing wires and making sure they got good connections....undo connectors, clean the contacts and reattach.....

get a voltmeter to see when connected, and when the pinion is spun, it reads .05....if it doesn't it's going out.....

Gauge cluster, get a different one and swap it......

my guess.......WIRING, SPEED SENSOR, GAUGE CLUSTER.....in this order
