I installed a Kaaz 2 way into an open diff onto a 97 S14 and was trying to install the two shafts back into the diff case after the carrier is installed and the shorter of the two shafts will not go all the way into the housing. it gets in almost the whole way in exept for about 1/4-1/2 inch. The splines are all lined up and everything and i am too confused here with this. Is there anyone out there that has encountered this or has any information on how to solve this????
Thanks,
Ryan

Easy.
Switch the output shafts.
As short as my answer is, it fits.
The right shaft, IIRC, is the shorter one, but i haven't played with a diff in a while.
Regardless, switching the shafts should do it. Give em a slight lovetap to reseat themselves.
PS. Make sure you measure backlash!!

I will give that a try but I made sure to mark the sides the shafts came out of when I took them out so I would not have any confusion.

So one of the axles is still not going in all the way. I have taken it apart and made sure the shim and all that is in correctly. I am running out of ideas here. Has anyone had issues when installing the KAAZ 2-way in their car come across issues where one of the shafts gets about 1/4 inch from seating and just wont go any further? Is this something that could just be dismissed and throw the diff back up in there?

Here are pictures of the two axles and how the one is not seating all the way.

did you mix up your shims? They are different spacing BTW. Ch-ch-check it.

humm, I will try putting the larger shim on the other side in the next couple days. I don't think they are on the wrong side though. But really any idea is worth a try now since I have gone completely out of ideas.

I remember reassembling diffs. I kept forgetting to group the shims and spent 30 minutes figuring out which shims went where.
times 4 difffs.
PITA.

Ok, so I tried switching the shim to the other side and that is definately not it since the ring gear doesnt even make contact with the pinion when I do that. I also tried switching the axles to the other side, (which is not the original sides they came out of) just in case. The same one s still not going in like it should. Anyone have any other ideas for this problem?

maybe something is messed up with the KAAZ unit, can you verify that the retaining ring hasn't come loose or turned sideways? You should really pattern your engagement....

how do i go about verifying that the retaining ring hasn't come loose or anything?
What kaaz did you get?
I had one of the old ones that req two left inputs from a vlsd.
call kazz and give them the part # for the one you have.

I will do that. I ordered the 2-way LSD for the Open Diff but I guess everyone makes mistakes. I dont care what it is right now, i just want to find out why. its pissing me off.

Did you ever figure out your problem?
