ok so i just bought this car. its an 89 240 hatch with an rb20det. it use to run. i heard that before i bought it it ran really amazing, then ran on 5 cylinders then ran on 4 (aparently). then it got sold to the guy i bought it off of. he said: it ran amazing until it died on the way to the store one day (500 meters from his place lol), 3 days after he bought it. he replaced the fuel filter and pump. didnt start. so he checked out some shit CAS, coil packs. said it had spark. so he advanced the timing all the way to put it in safe mode and it ran, like shit at around 3000rpm and up cause he said he had no boost or something, and hasnt run since.

now i got it and one day one i went through the steps and... its got fuel, but DOES NOT HAVE SPARK! so my auto teacher and i checked coil wires and grounds, and i ran the grounds to the firewall. still no spark. i thought it might have been the alarm imobilizer so i pulled the fuse and it didnt start. All i got is CRANK CRANK CRANK.... CRANK CRANK.... then thursday i ran an ecu code check and it came up 55 so CAS, MAF, evu bla bla bla is ok. i also re-timed it to stock. OH and i reset the ecu and still wont start.

so my teacher and i think its the ignition modual, expalins the cylinders cutting out, told its a common and it all ads up to that. sooo i should have a new used ignition module in a week or so hopefully sooner.

I hope to god thats what it is!

but does anyone else care to give there $.02 ?

check to see if the coil packs have melted, if the dude that had it had it running on 5 then 4 some coil packs could have melted, for that you could have some wires fucked up on that top harness, there is a good chance it could be your ecu.

and in the end it was that the ecu got burn up.

i dont think its the ecu at all. like i said i ran a code test and everything checked out. the led gave me 55 meaning ALL OK. google it lol. so i dont think its the ecu and the MAF controls air and fuel into the engine. not spark, and im just guessing but if the ecu was "burnt out" if probably would be getting fuel, right? and none of my ignition wire to the coil parks are melted, 2 of my clips are broken but still plug in, very miner

oh and something i forgot to mention is everyonce and a while i get bolt of spark. for example tuesday i got 2 single bolts of spark as i was cranking it and and once i got spark to jump. and then wednesday i got 1 single jolt, just once.

i went through all my fuses with a test light and theres no power going to my start signal fuse so im going to jump the fuses and see what that does and if that doesnt work im going to see if i can lend an ecu of my parts guy and see if that works...
