Today I went to one of the best muffler shops around to see if they could get any good deals on some mufflers. All he can really get is Flowmaster or Magnaflow (it mostly a domestic shop). I've never heard a Magnaflow. Anyone know how they sound? Do they sound like the typical rice boy's fart can?

Far from it, but you'll definately get more performance gain from an exhaust made for your car.

i have a magnaflow.... it sound real deep and ferocious... nothing like a fart can... if i coul id post a sound clip of it....
mine sounds better than the N1...
2 of my buddies have 240s both s13's. one has the N1 and the other one has a magnaflow... they both dynoed with just exhaust, and my buddy with the magnaflow got 3 more pnies that my friend with the N1... thats both with cats and 2.75in piping...

i had a magno flow before on my car when i had ka. sounds like **** coming out on accident when you fart. plus i always believed exhaust on a ka sounds like crap so i dunno. if you want my magna flow, ill give it to you for 20 bucks. haha.

I also asked the guy if he does mandrel bending, and he said he uses pressure bending. He said I wouldn't notice a difference with performance if I did mandrel or his way.

i think that an 3.5 inch N1 sounds good as **** on a 240 .... you can buy the N1 style mufflers on ebay for like 50-60 dollars ... sound just as good ... just have the muffler shop take out the res.

3.5 inch piping? Goodbye low end torque

The muffler isn't the only factor in what your car sounds or drives like. Pipe diameter, catalytic converter, resonators, and headers will all impact it. PLUS! People's opinion on what sounds good differs. You won't get much worthwhile opinion asking people about the sound of their custom exhausts, you need to hear the sound clips.
Y'all seem to have really frikkin' huge piping (2.7 - 3"), do you have turbochargers (another thing that will greatly impact sound)? Heck, I don't think I'd do more than 2.25" on my n/a KA. . .

i had 2.25 inch piping with a 3.5 inch N1 style muffler ... i didnt loose much low end ... not enough to tell ... Click of a small video clip (Right click and save target) (http://www.geocities.com/sponger85/me240.mpeg)
hope this helps ....
