i've been doing research
some people says V1 very good that it detects everything, some says because it wouldnt stop making noice so it looks like it detect everything.
some says passport is more accurate, some says it got less range than V1

V one is IMHO the best around
I use K40 undetectable units installed in my cars all you see is a knob and two or three lights all sensors are in the front end and you get a three (IIRC) year ticket gaurentee they will pay your ticket i want to get the V one rearview mirror unit for my car but too damn expensive

Both a waste of $ IMO. Just buy a cheap one. The V1 is anoying as hell, goes off every 2 seconds. I say save $300-$400 and buy something useful.

According to Maxim current Issue the V1 for 5 stars and the passport got 4 IIRC.

Search, this has been discussed before. Passport cant compare to V1 or K40.

Don't know if this really proves which is better but:

I have the passport 8500 and my friend has a v1, and we wanted to see which one had better range so we went on the local highway with both radars(in his car) found a cop on side of the road with his radar on. So we turned around put in the V1 and drove closser to the cop till the radar went off, the remembered the spot on the highway. Then went around again but this time with the 8500 and it picked it up sooner than the v1 did. Not to say the 8500 is better but we were pretty bored that day and wanted something to do.

Again this does not prove that it is better, just better at that time/situation.

Heh, yeah, I've noticed that too. People who own the V1 will tell you that's best. People who have the 8500 will tell you it's the one to get.

Notice that trend? ;)

The Passport 8500 and the Valentine V1 are both considered to be near the top of the ranks when it comes to detection ability. I'd consider them to be about equal in that regard. If you look hard enough, you'll find lots of comparisons that have one or the other coming out on top. The Passport will win in some tests, the V1 will win in others. The bottom line is that both of them are superior radar detectors that will pick up the police WAY before they pick up you. I hate it when people trot out figures and say things like, "Well, the 8500 picked up the cop at 3.6 miles! The V1 picked it up at 3.2, so the 8500 is superior, obviously!!" Uh, ok, but BOTH detectors picked up the signal long before a cop could get a bead on you, and isn't that the point?

One thing that the V1 has going for it, though, are the directional arrows. It can tell you which direction the radar signal is coming from, which many V1 owners swear by. The Passport is $100 less than the V1, but doesn't have those arrows.

FWIW, I've got an 8500. Works great. Saved my butt many a time. If I had to buy again, I'd probably ante up and get the V1, because it'd be nice to see which direction the cop is coming from.

i wish i have that money to have both the passport and the V1 at the same time
then i'll know which 1 is better
