OK, so I pulled my R200 out a week or so ago and put in a '95 J30 VLSD. It was fine up until last night. Last night it began to clunk. I am not sure if the VLSD had bushings in it or not, but I believe it did. When I checked under my car I noted that there was 1/4" to 1/2" of space between the differential housing and the washer on the bolt itself. Should there be a space there or was I supposed to use the old bushings or some jazz like that?
Do you use the R200 bushings on the J30?

i called Enjuku about ordering some solid diff bushings for my j30 pumpkin (i have an S13),they said that 13s dont need them, only the s14 guys usually order them. I thought that was shenanagins cause you can put a j30 in a s13 of 14 so......im gonna order some up for my wornout bushingless diff.

OK, so I'm thinking it might not be the bushings now. I just got under my car and poked around the bushing area. It felt like there was some sort of rubbery material in there, but then I rotated my driveshaft. There's play there. >.> Like 1/16 of a turn of play before the wheels start moving. What does this mean?

The hardware required to mount the J30 diff is the exact same as what came with the car. There's a cup washer with a rubber lining on top, a push in bushing through the mounting ear, a large washer, and a bolt. You should have reused all the S14 hardware.
S13 - You need all the J30 or S14 hardware as the S13 diff does not use bushings, therefore it does have the larger washer or the top cup washer.

I was told that my carrier bushing looks worn, but we checked it when we replaced the differential and it's still in decent condition. U-Joint was pretty solid though. I had someone look under my car while I created the clunk and they told me my diff was moving forward. Damn bushings...

So it turns out that the '95 VLSD from a J30 does not have the same mounting hardware as an R200. A metal ring with rubber in that and a bolt mount cylinder in the rubber. All you have to do is pop it out and the R200 Cup bushing pops right in. (My rubber pretty much was torn and when we unbolted the mounts, the rubber bushings and metal inner mounts fell out.) >.>
