I know the fashionista folks are going to shun me for this, but last season old navy had a real nice one with the old navy price of course..

The one I wear in the winter was a navy issued one from a navy cosignment shop. If you have base access try to go to one and just get one from there.

You can get the real ones at the thrift store.

This is more true if there is a military base close to you.

I know you are looking for a pea coat but ,

I know that my friend found a copy my dads airforce parka at "the buckle". It is almost an exact copy but not military.

I was at the Aéropostale store the other day and I saw some at half price ($50). They were pretty nice..
But an Army surplus store would probably have more legit ones though.

i got a Roundtree & Yorke navy blue peacoat from Dillard's for like $200 on clearance about 2 years ago. its one of those things i'll have for quite a while. i love they way they look. i just wish i wasnt such a fatty and it looked cooler on me. lol.

this one is pretty dope:
BROWN KNITTED PEA COAT - Chunky Knit Cardigans - Cardigans & Sweaters - TOPMAN USA (http://www.topman.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?beginIndex=0&viewAllFlag=&catalogId=32052&storeId=13051&categoryId=139646&parent_category_rn=134541&productId=1352260&langId=-1&cmpid=us_aff_shopstyle&switch=1)

only $100, too.

mine looks A LOT like this:
Wool Pea Coat (http://www.eddiebauer.com/catalog/product.jsp?ensembleId=36443&=&categoryId=800&categoryName=BLAZERS&pCategoryId=16&pCategoryName=OUTERWEAR--BLAZERS&gpCategoryId=2&gpCategoryName=MEN&ggpCategoryId=1&ggpCategoryName=EB&catPath=~~categoryId%3D800~~categoryName%3DBLAZERS ~~pCategoryId%3D16~~pCategoryName%3DOUTERWEAR--BLAZERS~~gpCategoryId%3D2~~gpCategoryName%3DMEN~~g gpCategoryId%3D1~~ggpCategoryName%3DEB&viewAll=null&cm_ven=Performics&cm_cat=Affiliate&cm_pla=Tier3&cm_ite=Tier3)

i cant find the one i have.. the roundtree & yorke website doesnt have any fall stuff up yet.

I've had mine for almost 10 years and almost never wear it, but I rarely wear coats.
Amazon has some good deals on them:
Amazon.com: (http://www.amazon.com/gp/search/ref=sr_nr_n_0?rh=n%3A1036592%2Cn%3A!1036682%2Ck%3A pea+coat%2Cn%3A1040658&bbn=1036682&keywords=pea+coat&ie=UTF8&qid=1253218765&rnid=1036682)

Also, never underestimate the value of early-season sales in places like JC Penney, Sears and the likes.

That must be nice...

Don't get it twisted, I live in a place where 8° and 108° are only 6 months divided.
I just don't get cold, so much to the point where I really do wear shorts all year.

None of those are pea coats. At least near the US Navy style. I see them at Naval Exchanges all the time.. wish I took to time to see what they cost. They look sharp, but never cared to wear one.

And I was thinking about wearing mine this winter. The navy ones are pretty sick, glad I still got mine from when it was issued 3 years ago.

I have a Gap one in my closet, whenever it's cold enough to wear it, it's raining. :-/

Wet wool equals a huge no no.

Just go to a military surplus store. Orrrrr, if your out in SF some time there is a store along Haight St. that sells really nice ones for about $40. They are actually genuine USN ones too.

Im sure you could find a place like that in NYC...

I have my legit Navy peacoat, it's a little small but still wears well. I don't wear it that often - thanks Socal!

Just bought this with my Gore Tex discount (long story), can't wait for it to be chilly enough to wear it.

Windproof, waterproof, and totally breathable so you don't sweat. Plus it's not too "poofy" like my other casual jackets... I dig it.

Must be nice to be tall, pea coats generally look dumb on short people, and I am short.

So jealous.

It's actually easier to find them when you're short(er). I'm 6'4" and I had a hell of a time finding one both because of my height and because I'm thin (~185). Every place I went I either couldn't find one with arms that were long enough or it looked like I was wearing a circus tent. Clothing manufacturers seem to think that anyone over 6' is morbidly obese because it's pretty much the same case for EVERYTHING. Try finding jeans that don't fit like shit when you have a 32" waist and a 34" inseam.

I got my last winter coat at Jos A Bank (Joseph A Bank), it's a 3/4 length 3 button wool top coat that I think was around $200. If you're looking for something inexpensive, try Burlington Coat Factory, I don't know if they have them in NYC (usually located in shopping malls) but they do have a web store. You can get a pretty decent one for about $100. It won't be cashmere and it won't look as good as the higher end stuff (in regards to cut and shape of the coat), but it will be warm, it will look decent and it won't fall apart on you. Plus, if something happens to it you won't be crying over a $1,600 Calvin Klein full length cashmere top coat.

One word of advice: Don't buy a double breasted coat. When you wear a double breasted coat, be it an overcoat or a suit coat, you have to wear it completely buttoned up. Otherwise you'll like an asshole who can't dress himself. So it's either jacket on and buttoned up, or jacket off. If you wear a 3 or 4 button coat you can wear it open or closed.

And anyone over the age of 15 shouldn't even bother with that parka/bubble coat/sports team jacket bullshit. You're a grown man, dress like one.

I might get one for the winter, but this has always been my problem with finding jackets.
