View Full Version : Have a 96 240sx - looking at buying a 88 300zx, do parts interchange?

I recently bought a 96 240sx as a project car. A just found a 88 300zx for $1200 with 140xxx miles on it. It has a little rust on the wheel wells, but is otherwise solid. The 240sx will sit for winter since it's never seen snow, and I don't want it rusty. I would drive the 300zx until we got significant snow, then park that and drive my truck. My question is can I use the suspension and driveline from the 88 300zx on my 96 240sx? The 300zx is a turbo also.

Anything fits with enough modification.

Without modification, nothing on either chassis will direct crossover besides the brake master cylinder.

So wait, what do you want to do here?

Swap the suspension and driveline from the Z31 into your S14?

Z31 is trailing arm suspension, S chassis is multilink, and superior. VG30ET is archaic.

I think it would make a fun winter beater for $1000, but don't mix it with your S14.

As for parts interchangeability..
All manual N/A Z31's used FS5W71C transmission which is used in the 240SX.
I think front tension rod bushings are the same too.

Probably the dumbest question ive seen asked here of all time. Why would you want to do that in the first place?!

X2.
I know there might not be such thing as a stupid question.
But seriously, what a fucking stupid ass question.:(

The reason I asked is because it has 5 way Tokico Illumina adjustables on it all the way around, and the guy told me that the rear diff was a better one in the 300zx. I'm not familiar with the 300zx's at all, so that's why I asked.

There's a guy on ZT who put the front and rear of an s13 on his I believe. Takes some hand fitting/work to get it in though.

Not plug and play as most people would expect/want.

Oh yeah. Those things are ugly as fuck. I wouldn't want to even own one, let alone mod one.
