well yesterday my buddy got pulled over by the state ref. he still doesn't know if they're going to try and get him to surrender it if he doesn't bring it to comply with stock motor specs.

his ride is super clean too, paint is good, everything is tip top from the glance of it, even a quiet ass exhaust and he got pulled over and had to pop the hood.

if the SR doesn't come stock in your ride, the ref can make your life a living hell, don't doubt that. hell even a swaybar can get you a ticket from the ref.
CA has covered all it's bases to a point where the motor may not matter, but your emissions will, and SR20DE-T's don't pass emissions simply because the only motor to pass emissions from that family was the SR20DE in the Sentra SE-R, and modifying the exhaust manifold "in any way" is already subject to reverting to original equipment.

It's true though, customs actually started caring around year 2000 and put timebombs in all the sr20s that came into C.A. They were retrofitted at the border so it doesnt matter where it comes from.
They are all set to blow up in 2012 as the Mayan calender ends but some were faulty and have blown up already, they had a recall on some of the explosives as they contained leaded paint which caused them to prematurely explode which created global warming, and the famous power crisis in CA.

I don't know I was told the same thing by a shop where I bought my front clip(G speed) they said weren't importing the sr20det's anymore for whatever reason(would not tell me why) not that it really mattered because for every shop that won't there are a bunch others that will and I will be needing a spare motor soon.
