I noticed recently that there is a sound which the best way i can describe it is a whistling sound. It only occurs while driving if i rev the engine while the car is sitting still it doesnt happen. It sounds like its coming from the rear end i cant really pin point it because sitting in the back while your friend drives your your car its hard to hear exactly where it is coming from. Any help would be great.
Thanks

Sounds like a wheel bearing Well in the possibility that it is a wheel bearing the best way to see if it is. would be to go down the road and turn your car left, and then right and see if it gets louder as you turn one specific way, then which ever way you turned its the opposite side wheel bearing. or visa versa if it goes away when you turn say left then it not the right side wheel bearing but if it come back when you turn right then it the left side. if it stays the same then you have a little more serious problems. ie your driveshaft support bearing. or maybe even the bearings coming apart inside you diff. but if you are mechanicaly inclined then these reapairs are easy.

Sounds like diff is howling. When you open it up check how much play is in the ring gear. There is a spec for it.

hmm :-/ i have a welded diff (always have) but every time i accelerate it has that whining/howling/whistling noise as well. doesnt seem to be affecting performance tho. just got used to it, but i'd like to know what it is as well.
