Just a fairly simple question about setting the cam timing to the crank. Acually I am just asking if anyone has a write up on it. It would help me put greatly because I can't come up with anything on the search...

Thanks guys,
CRyan

Yup. Frsport has a write-up.
How To Set Crank Angle Sensor (CAS) Timing on the SR20DET Engine (http://www.frsport.com/How-To-Set-Crank-Angle-Sensor--CAS--Timing-on-the-SR20DET-Engine_t_25.html)

I was able to get my timing set correctly with this writeup. But, it did require the removal of the valve cover.

Come on guys...not CAS...I am talking about the timing of the cams by the crank pulley. That is what I was attempting to do but noticed my dots weren't lining up with the crank mark... So I am assuming my cams need to be turned to where they will line up correctly?unless there is something I don't know about?

Take some pictures of the cam sprockets and crank at TDC, then we can see what's happening.

Also search up Timing on this forum, you'll find some detailed info.

Unfortunately I do not have Internet right now, and I am having to do all this posting on my iPhone... I can yell you location of the dots at the second mark on the crank though.

On the first turn, to the second mark from the left on crank pulley, my intake cam's dot sits at about 4 o'clock, and my exhaust cam sets at about 8. They are side by side at this point basically.

When I turn the motor over again to TDC, the intake cam is now at 730 o'clock and exhaust is at 430. So basically they switch postions, making a mirror effect if I may.

Hey Ryan,

try this method.

1. Remove all spark plugs
2. find a long screw driver and 'gently' place it in the 1st cylinder.
3. rotate the crank slowly and when you see the screw driver rise up, your crank should be at TDC, look at the crank mark. 2nd from the left.
3. check the dots on the cam sprockets. please refer to frsport.com CAS (images), it will show you were the dots line up approx.

Others may chime in, but this is how i've done it. Hopefully this helps.

This works...but be carefull, when I did it this way and rotated everything it to line up the marks on the cam sprockets the didnt fall where they are supposed to according to the FSM.

Also Jim Wolf has a nice write-up with pics etc.
