so i installed a oil pressure gauge in my sr before i made the trip home from indianapolis to cincincinnati. At a 70 cruise the oil pressure stayed right above 50psi but every 40 miles or so it would drop to nothing?! so i pulled over checked everything and then it would go back up. At idle the pressure is next to nothing maybe 12 psi...are these numbers bad or what? any help is good thx guys

your pick up could be broken.

but if it is dropping to nothing it sounds more like a gauge/wiring problem.

Pressure at idle should be 11psi-14psi, and increase approx 10psi for every 1000rpms. If your pickup is broken, you could be seeing that, or the gauge could just be crappy.

I'd get a tube of grey oil-safe RTV and pop that lower pan off, just to make sure. New blacktop SR20 pickups are available from most cool Nissan dealers, like West Covina Nissan, Performance Nissan, or Courtesy Nissan.
